“Amazing”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This enormous fortress of a cathedral dominates Girona. Don't miss the attached galleries with all their graphic paintings of catholic persecutions. Best to go during the flower festival when all the steps are steen with flowers. There are good and not too touristy restaurants close to the cathedral.

“It's free if you just want to light a candle or say a prayer.....”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

Just wanting to light a candle we thought the 8 Euros each was a little expensive. Whilst I understand the cost of upkeep I felt buying candles in the visitor shop and a small donation at least contributed a little. After 4, the doors are opened for those wishing to pray. (No harm in having a little look around too) Make sure you leave a little donation though....

“Extraordinary. If you have 'Visiting Church Fatigue', Still Visit!”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

All the superlatives apply. The best way to visit is to simply be there in the center of one of the most vast architectural spaces in the world. I see that others have complained about the entrance fees. Here's the good news: Buy a ticket for both the Cathedral and Basilica and , at the time of this writing, you pay 7 Euros for both. There are also other packages that bundle other museums into the picture at discount as well.
Back to the visit of the Cathedral: Leave the Cathedral proper, and spend a lovely time in the Cloisters , wonderful and complex stone carvings on each column, surrounding a lovely large green space. The best is last: in a space at the far end of a rather tedious exhibit of church valuables, is the extraordinary 'Creation Tapestry", an approximately 8 foot square that describes in playful detail the creation of the world. Though the recorded commentary (given free in Catalonia at almost every site), may have some information of merit, it is quite distracting from the experience. Try it, but consider not bothering, and you may enjoy simply 'being there'.

“A Historic Beauty”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

Renowned for the widest Gothic nave in the world, the cathedral holds much architecture and sculpture of interest. Two chapels had especially moving portrayal of the passion of Christ. The top must see in Girona.
