A truly amazing place. How it was built in its time is a real feat. A great place to learn lots about the history of Girona. 1 of the best views in Girona.

“Worth a visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

Fair price of seven euros to get in which included an audio guide. However, the guide itself was not very engaging with a lack of real history (it focused heavily on each piece of art/sculpture) and it was not clear the order to walk around the cathedral itself. Pretty cloisters, worth a drop in visit but do not prepare to be amazed.

“Magnificient but..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

it is a very massive cathedral which is overwhelming you in loads of ways: the people working in are not that friendly, the presence of saints, God, Jesus is very oppressive for there are just too much. I was trapped in it during morning mass and my partner was on the other side and could not join me because the staff would not allow him.

“Cathedral/Lion of Girona/Jewish Quarter”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013

Our visit to Girona was a big hit. Our driver dropped us off by the bridge that led over the beautiful river to the Cathedral. We met a young lady with www.educators.es who gave us a 2 hr. tour of the Cathedral of Santa Maria, the charming Jewish Quarter, a local museum, the winding/narrow streets & The Lion of Girona. The Cathedral was beautiful (90 steps up), interesting local stone used to build it (has had major restorations due to failure of the stone over the years). The Jewish Quarter is charming with many small shops and restaurants. The Lion of Girona is in the Plaza de Feliu by the Cathedral. Local lore says that if you climb the steps up and kiss the lions rear, you become a honorary citizen of Girona & will definitely return to the city. In the local museum, you will see an original excavated room that was used to embalm high ranking church leaders (only 2 other sites exist in the world). Wish we had more time here, but wanted to drive the Costa Brava sea coast before heading back to Barcelona to board the Royal Princess.
