“Impressed, would stay again”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2014

The only fault I could find was the location. It is about 15-20 mins walk to the centre. I hired a bicycle from the hotel (EUR30 for 3 days, the money goes to charity which is nice) so it was not a major issue. Previous reviews said the area was not very nice. If you go south you are in an industrial estate and it is not very pleasant but there is no reason to be going this way after dark so it is irrelevant to the location of the hotel. The hotel is next door to an El Corte Ingles department store with a huge supermarket in the basement. The bus station is about 10 mins walk away.

The hotel is 4 star quality with comfortable spacious rooms which included a kettle. I booked through the website (it was the same price as booking engines) which included a 'free' EUR10 (it was deducted at check-out) a day which I could spend in the bar or restaurant. This was a good idea as it meant there were guests coming in and out of the bar in the evening so it gave a bit of life to the place. Breakfast was fantastic, it included a large selection of meats, fruits, cakes and cheese. As well as their hot/cold buffet they had a small table with food (and wine!) from the region which I thought was a great idea.

Staff were friendly, there was free wifi and a 12 o'clock check-out which all gets the thumbs-up from me. (I have a gauge regarding check-out times, 10 o'clock check-out is mean, 11 o'clock is normal, 12 o'clock is being nice and giving good service). I would definitely stay here again.

I only spent a very short overnight in this hotel. Slept, showered and had breakfast. Im not even sure about the locations. Room was outdated....certainly would need some refurb along the way. Breakfast was very good. Good selection of cold cuts and cocking station.

Internet free and OK speed. Its a 20 minute drive from Girona airport

Steps up to hotel; no ramp may prove a problem for some people. Nice reception area. Asked for an upgrade room but refused saying the hotel was full. Given the amount of people we saw and talking to staff, this seemed untrue. Room good size but a little dated. Pleasant and helpful staff. Room safe was rather complicated to use due to no instruction leaflet. We had to summon help which arrived shortly.

We reserved an executive junior suite at the Meliá Girona for two nights in July 2014 in a cash and Meliá loyalty points deal (total for the 2 nights: €220 plus 2000 points). Our rate included breakfast. The suite was excellent, very spacious and luxuriously equipped. The décor was traditional rather than modern and minimalist. As might be anticipated, there was a free internet connection. On our first evening, there was a chilled bottle of cava and petit fours waiting in the room when we returned from dinner in the city centre (a nice touch). The breakfast buffet was excellent. On one of the evenings, we ate in the restaurant which was a very good choice. My wife and I shared a starter of Iberian ham. I followed this with duck in a rich myrtille sauce whilst my wife chose the Iberian pork. We drank a bottle of a Rioja reserva which was very reasonably priced at €22. Service was agreeably leisurely and we did not feel rushed (as is sometimes the case). Somewhat unusually for a hotel restaurant, it was surprisingly full but this may reflect the lack of dining options in the immediate vicinity. There is a small bar which, when we were there, was occupied by a large, rather boisterous collection of tourists who were not staying at the hotel (obviously, this is not a reflection on the hotel itself). Fortunately, they did not choose to eat in the hotel restaurant.

I would like to comment on some of the points raised by other reviewers. The hotel is a decent, not especially pleasant walk from the town centre and it take about 20 – 30 min to complete the walk. In the heat or after dining, this could be a little arduous. The hotel is not situated in a particularly salubrious area though, unlike one reviewer, we personally did not feel in any way threatened (though we tend to be fairly early to bed, rather than being night-owls). The hotel is adjacent to the railway tracks (and our room was immediately adjacent to the tracks), but we were never disturbed by the noise of trains. One reviewer commented on the difficulty of parking in the secure garage which is reasonably priced at €6 per night (we were paying €24 per night in Barcelona). We have quite a sizable car (4.712 m/15 ft 6 inches long, 2.02 m/6 ft 8 inches wide), but I had no difficulty in manoeuvering it on either level 1 or level 2 of the garage. Admittedly, some of the marked spaces are on the short side and the front or back of our car protruded beyond these. Equally, they are rather narrow and it is advisable to retract the door mirrors. Exiting level 2 did require reversing and aligning the car in order to negotiate the ramp, but this was not problematical. Overall, my advice is not to be worried about parking in the garage – just make your turns as wide as possible.

We stayed one night and had a terrific visit in Girona. The room was good and the staff was really serviceminded all the way. The breakfast was superb! Easy to find by car and good parking around the hotel.

This hotel is a standard Meliá quality, which means it's good quality for the price.

Room was clean, not too spacious but not small either. Staff was always nice and attentive.

It included wifi connection with our rate, though it was a bit squeaky at times.

Parking lot is very tight. A medium or large car will only be able to park on the 1st level, as the turn to go down to the 2nd is downright impossible to make. Even the spaces on the 1st level are not too big.

Cannot judge breakfast as our rate did not include it, but there's a bakery just in front of the hotel with magnificent pastries and coffee!

Easy to reach by car, it lies a bit off the center but it's a nice 20 min stroll to the main plaza.
