I researched hotels quite a bit before I went. I am glad I chose the Peninsular because it is in a great location, not too close to the noisy bells!, Just over the river from the Ramblas, 5-10 mins walk from train/bus station and close to all city bars etc. Fairly comfortable basic rooms and continental breakfast with lovely bread buns.

Girona is well worth a visit, scenic and relaxing. Barcelona is just over an hour train trip away (costs 12 euro return - approx £8.50). We walked around Girona on the morning and caught the 12:30 train to barcelona, which was well worth it. We came back to Girona on the 7pm train and it was nice to escape Barcelona hustle and bustle and go back to Girona again! The metro in barcelona is good a T10 ticket can be used for 10 trips and by more then one person 6.6 euro.

Only slight downfall is that we were pickpocketed in Girona and someone has been trying to use our credit cards in Girona shops. But I guess that can happen in many towns.

Still Girona and the majority of the people was lovely!

We did an on-line search for a moderately priced, two night stay in Girona, and the Peninsular was highlighted as a potential. I am so glad we stayed there! We had a third floor twin room with a small window onto a light-well, courtyard. The room was very clean, and I am quite picky on cleanliness. The room was also surprisely quiet, even although the hotel is centrally located. It is literally a few metres from the old (touristy - in a good way) part of town. The staff were pleasant and courteous.
The best recommendation I can give is that if I am to return to Girona, I will stay again at this modest, yet really pleasant hotel.
Good value for money - and that's from a Scotsman!

This is the third time my husband and myself have stayed at the Peninsular - for value for money, perfect location and high standards of cleanliness - I don't think it can be beaten. My sister and her husband visited Girona for the first time and also stayed with us at the Peninsular and really enjoyed their stay. Excellent fresh continental breakfast.

Girona was as beautiful as ever - the medieval city is stunning - don't miss the Jewish quarter for the cobbled streets, lovely shops and restaurants. The gardens around the cathedral are not to be missed - so peaceful. We dined at the Tagliatelli restaurant each night of our 3 night stay as the food is so fresh and tasty.

Girona is still a city which is largely undiscovered, particularly by the British who seem to go straight to Barcelona or the Costa Brava and completely miss this Catalonian gem.

We'll be back very soon! (we fly direct from Blackpool which is just the easiest flight ever)

Flew out with Ryanair with husband and 9 year old son. We landed bang on time and took a taxi to the hotel as it was 10pm. The taxi was 25 Euros and took around 15 minutes. Our room was on the first floor overlooking a small courtyard. It was very quiet, clean and freshly decorated. The bathroom was lovely and clean, lots of towels and hot water. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept really well. We didn't use the hotel for breakfast so can't comment on that. Instead we walked the few minutes to a cafe/bar in Place Independencia, only so that we could sit in the morning January sun with a coffee and pain au chocolate. There were lots of cafes/bars available for alternative breakfasts. The location of the hotel was fantastic - right across the river from the beautiful old quarter with it's cobbled streets and alleyways. We would definatly visit Gerona again! We took the airport shuttle back to the airport. (2 euros 5 each). The buses run every hour on the hour from the bus station, 10 minutes walk from the hotel, and the journey was about 25 minutes. Our flight back was at 5pm and the hotel kept our bags until we were ready. Like others have commented the only downside for us with this hotel was the lack of tea/coffee making facilities - but liveable with for two days!

Although the Hotel rooms had the taste of old interior decorating, it was quite comfortable. The bath/shower had an excellent hot water system, but the rooms didnt have a jug to boil water for tea/coffee, or a small bar fridge. The hotel Did however, have free internet which was a bonus. It is ideally located in centre of town and a lovely walk to the Walled City Gardens is a must.
Approx. a good 10 minute walk to bus and train station.
