We had lunch here at the suggestion of our cousin who knows Chef Hug. It was wonderful- the croquettes and the paella, the view, the wine, the friendly staff; all made for a meal we will never forget. Thank you Hug and friends and to our cousin!

On the beach walk in Barceloneta, this restaurant is known among the locals for the always very fresh fish and seafood.
You might need reservations, or grab a table when they open for lunch or dinner and before the Spanish customers arrive for their late meals.
The service is attentive, the recommendations for food and wine were just perfect. We chose seafood for appetizers and black rice for the main, all well prepared and very Catalonian.
The price level is higher than average, but you pay for both good food and the great location.

Had dinner at Kaiku based on Web-recommendations - not a great experience.

Staff are pleasant and English-language capability is fine. Good location on the waterfront. That's it as superlatives go.

The menu is limited, mostly sea-food. Had the foie-gras croquettes as stater - very average. Waitress explained the specials. The red prawns were red shrimps. Seriously, they were tiny and cold. The heads were full of grey-juice, I'm still trying to decide whether it was mud from their former home or brain-fluid. Yugh!

Mains arrived whilst still busy with the entrees - this pointed to an obvious issue with this restaurant; the staff are kids and had little to no understanding of any etiquette. The waitress proffered the wine for tasting and when the nod was given she topped up my glass before the rest of the table. A few of those at the table had the paella rice dish - burnt taste, stodgy and garnished with a few of the same red 'prawns' and a few mussels. It was seriously bad.

The serving staff provided wet towels to wash one's hands with but (amazingly) they arrived with the main course - by the time their use was appropriate they were cold and water-logged.

One word sums up the entire experience - unsophisticated. Two words - extremely unsophisticated. Give this place a seriously wide berth. Burger King is a way better choice.

We went here with friends who live in Barcelona. It a word the food is superb. Seafood is extremely fresh - indeed they tell you on the menu the date the fish was caught. The highlights of our meal with the oysters which were served raw (any other way?) with a ginger and passion fruit dressing. Amazing. The other highlight was ravioli of tuna and avocado. The thinly sliced tuna provided the 'pasta' for the wonderful filling. Other started we had were scallops, mini scallops served with a light lemon sauce; octpopus and grilled shrimp.

We all had fish for mains. Tuna and Sean bream where great, but really the startes shone out.

We had an amazing muscat from southern Spain with our meal - dry with sweet fruity notes.

Service was generally good. The one downpours happened when I went for a smoke after main course. When trying to return to our table I was literally accosted by a waiter stating that the toilets were for customers use only. I tried explaining that I was trying to return to my table - I must learn some Spanish - and eventually a waitress who had recognised me explained the situation. I was dressed in denim shorts, t-shirt but the restaurant is located in Barcelonetta betside the beach ...... !! I was slightly out out but the food still managed to override the rudeness.

Do go with flip flops.
