We dined here last weekend on a city break to Barcelona and have to say the food and wine were all outstanding! The ambiance and the service were excellent and my boyfriend who is a head chef was also very impressed with the food. The focus is very much on Calatan food and you may need a sense of adventure when you order if you don't speak Spanish as the staff do not speak English. However, every single dish was perfection as was the wine. We will definately return to this restaurant and Barcelona - Loved It!

First and foremost, this is a family restaurant. The owner is the maitre d' and his wife is the chef.
The decor is plain and simple and, if you were just a passerby, you might keep on walking.
That said, the cuisine is authentic and delicious. My wife's codfish and scallops were the tastiest that she has ever eaten.
Small restaurants like La Estrella thrive because of positive feedback on websites like Tripadvisor. They deserve their success.

A local restaurant with a gourmet twist. You come here to a restaurant without expecting greatness, and what you get from both the most charming owner/waiter, and his wife, who is an outstanding chef in her own right, is a meal that is both satisfing and quite delicious. Each and every dish that came out was prepared with pride and love. Flavors abound! This is a great place to come to when you get tired of all those "tasting menus" and you want a fantastic regular meal. And b-t-w, the owner recommended his tirame su...of which I am not a big fan....served with homemade dulce de leche gelato, this was SO GOOD, we ordered TWO!!!. If you want something not touristy, but really good, try La Estrella....you'll be glad you did!

Some Catalán friends who live in Barcelona took us here, and it appears to not be a well-known tourist place. The food is simply superb. It's stylishly presented but unlike some places where the items are unrecognizable, here it is all real, premium-quality, carefully prepared food. We had some starters that were just amazing, including a carpaccio of pig's knuckles (may not sound good to Americans, but believe me it was stunning) with lobster meat. There were also razor clams just brought in from the Ebro river delta that day; they were the most flavorful clams I've ever eaten. Main courses included a local fish stuffed with shrimp and caviar, and veal cheeks cooked for hours until they were meltingly tender. The waiter will explain all the specials, and it seemed like the list was longer than the actual menu. This reflects the fact that they use many fresh ingredients. The wines were also excellent, and in our case included a cava (must-have bubbly in these parts) followed by a red from Tarragona called "Nuit de Lluna" which was velvety and well-balanced. Oh, and the desserts...you must leave room for them! Every type of lovely chocolate taste/texture combinations, etc. This place is the kind one will keep coming back to.

Oh, this place is just fantastic. Lovely sleek setting for traditional Catalan food with a modern twist. Everything is so delicious and part of the experience is the courtly gentleman who tells you about the food and helps you with wine. Even if you don't understand Catalan, it's a delight just to listen to him describe what's on offer when he speaks his beautiful native language. Not to worry, the menu is also available in English and Spanish and the staff speak both languages as well. Usually filled with local people. Remember, dinner is eaten 9 pm or later and go hungry, but please go. It's a wonderful experience.
