We visited the Santa Caterina's market in Barcelona. If you are staying in a self contained apartment, this is a must, everything was so fresh, and market kept very clean. Beautiful displays of fresh fish, all types of meat and of course, Iberian Ham, a speciality of the region. Unfortunately we did not have cooking facilites but did manage to purchase beautiful fresh stone fruits, cheeses. ham and cheeses. Had a lovely picnic in the park with a bottle of wine. Recommended and very pleasant way to spend a few hours.

Less shiny than Boqueria market, but the bar-resto in it is a nice experience, welcoming, cooking tasty things in from of you, fresh products of course. All types of seafood and tapas in front of you. Not very expensive. Much less crowds! mostly for locals. must do!

We in England seem to have lost all our wonderful markets but they are thriving here and the selection of fresh produce was amazing. Fish, meat, cheese, fruits, vegetables, nuts, etc, etc. Magic. Go!

We took a cooking class in Barcelona, a wonderful experience at Canela Fina. Before the class, we strolled with one of our chefs, through the stalls of Santa Caterina's Market. It's a glorious market that used to be open aire and is now covered, as a permanent daily market of fresh fish, meats, vegetables, fruits, cheeses, and even an olive oil tasting center. The colors were vibrant as we walked by the fruits and vegetable stands. We learned how to identify fresh fish from the not-so-fresh. We tasted a variety of tomatoes.... who knew there were so many tomatoes....and we're from southern California where produce is aplenty! The foods and the information all fed into our cooking class which was just a five minute walk away. What a glorious morning at the market. How lucky the people of Barcelona are to have this incredible market at which to shop every day!

Our apartment was just behind this market and we took advantage to buy fresh fruit and breads for an occasional breakfast during our stay in Barcelona. Lovely just to stroll through all the stalls.
