“Reasonably priced, small portions”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

We came upon La Crema Canela while wandering through Placa Reial. Petty theft must be common in this area as is it extremely busy and our server actually took our bags, placed them on an empty chair and pushed it under the table for safe measure - which we appreciated. As a starter we ordered the prawns in red curry sauce, which was decent but very mild and bland compared to typical Thai flavours. For dinner, I had the salmon tartar which was more of an appetizer portion but I couldn't complain due to the price. The salmon was fresh and lovely, however, the overall dish was again bland. We did enjoy our dessert which consisted of tiramisu (or some other cake, I can't remember exactly) served in a plate of sweet milk or something there other. Other dishes may be better, so it's worth checking out if you're looking for a very light meal.

“This is an honest little gem right in the tourist heart if Barcelona”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

Just off the Placa Reial in the busiest part of Barcelona, next door to the justifiably successful Quinze Nits is La Crema Canela and it is packed with visitors to the city. From our experiences in this, one of the busiest weekends I've ever seen in Barcelona, we didn't hold out much hope of getting a table, getting decent service or getting decent food. We were, it turned out, wrong in all three counts.
We had an excellent dinner of honest Spanish home cooking with good wine, mineral water, apperatives and coffee for only €62. Highlights we're the salt cod and Iberian pork main courses. The pork medallions were stacked on wild mushrooms and onion, seasoned with a tiny amount of cinnamon, in a rich gravy on wilted spinach.
The stand out aspect of the meal was the courteous, smiling service. This is a restaurant largely frequented by tourists and you often get off-hand service in places like this but the opposite was true. The waiting staff created a very good atmosphere in the restaurant in a way that difficult to pin down- you simply felt you had come to the right place if that makes sense. I can't say that for the other two restaurants we dined in this weekend, both charging far more than La Crema Canela. We had never been before but we will be coming back. Well done to the team there.

“We really enjoyed this lunch”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

Both the location and the quality of the food were excellent. This for a very nice price.
Only drawback here was the bad smell in the street while we were eating on the terrace but the restaurant can't do anything about this of course.
This is definitely a place to try if you're in Barcelona.

“Good food, reasonably priced”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

It’s fairly rare that I would recommend a restaurant where the waiter greets you with the line “Watch your bag!” as he leads you to your table. However I make an exception for this restaurant. Set in a passage just off Placa Reial, this restaurant has tables either side of the path and inside. The seats which back onto the passage way are prime to bag snatchers so it is worth keeping an eye on your possessions if you chose to sit outside (although we had no problems).
The restaurant was very busy when we arrived but our waiter found us a table after a short wait. The menu is very varied and the food was excellent. Everything seemed reasonably priced and the service was excellent.

“Everyone loved their meal”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

We were with 2 friends and met our daughters in Barcelona and ate here our first night outside on the patio. Five of us did 3 course meals and we all enjoyed the food so much we would have gone back again if we had more than 3 days. The setting was lovely, the food was delicious and fairly priced with a wide range of options and prices. They were super busy so we had a 40 min to get a table for 6 but it was worth it. Great area to walk around at night close to a big plaza with bars and cafes.
