Description: Located in a historical building in the bustling Plaza Real, Café restaurant Taxidermista offers seasonal cooking. The building was previously a natural science museum and taxidermy workshop although it also served as an air raid shelter during the Civil War. The remains of the convent from before the Plaza was built are still preserved in the basement. The atmosphere is cosmopolitan and the clientele includes artists, designers and architects. Taxidermista has preserved many of the original features and organises plenty of cultural activities that mean it is much more than just a restaurant. In addition to the interesting menu, it offers a variety of excellent tapas made from excellent ingredients.

We stumbled upon Taxidermista purely by accident, and were so glad we did! We shared a terrina of foie gras, hummus and braised eggplant, and a goat cheese salad, accompanied by some fine Tempranillo, all for only about 35 euros. It's a lively spot with tables outside right on the placa, and a big space inside for quieter dining. We loved it!

This restaurant is situated in a small square off the Ramblas with a variety of restaurants and bars. Two restaurants here had featured in our travel guide so we decided to visit. Les Quinze Nits was next door and our intended destination, however the queue here was huge and as it was raining decided to dip into Taxidermista instead (BIG mistake - can see now why the other restaurant had such a large queue!) The service here was ok - not as poor as others here had reported although it was nothing special. We chose some tapas dishes to share for starters which were actually very nice, however the main course was absolutely terrible! We both ordered sirloin steak and had asked for it to be cooked medium. The cut of beef was too fatty and sinewy to be sirloin and was cut into thick slices (we feel to disguise the poor cut). To add to this, it was raw in the middle and stone cold - certainly not medium. The waiting staff seemed unconcerned that the meals had hardly been touched - I agree with other reviews that they are only concerned with the money. This was one of the most expensive meals we had in Barcelona and was a total disaster - avoid the Ramblas area for food - there is much better choice elsewhere and at a more reasonable price.

my girlfriend and I were walking around looking for somewhere to eat dinner. we stopped here, because we thought it looked nice, so we sat ourselves down and waited 10 minutes until a man came up to us and just handed us menus then left. the waiter would forget things we asked for, just all over the service was the worst i have ever had. the food wasn't any better, ICE cold plates, store bought potato chips, etc. for dessert we had a Catalan creme, which wasnt even that, and they burned the sugar way way to much. and the other thing was while eating out dinner people would come and try to sell some things to us, i think that if you have a terrace in a plaza you would be able ot keep out the sellers.

During a 5 day recent visit to Barcelona, Taxidermista was the highlight for food and for service. It is located on a very busy and attractive square. We arrived an hour late (don't ask) for our reservation on a humid Summer evening. Terrace was full, inside was empty. We were immediately seated. The place seemed to be short of staff, so servers were running in all directions. But whenever they came to our table they were very attentive, friendly, and helpful. We were a party of 5. Most of us ate from the set menu, and it was surprisingly good for such a reasonably-priced offering. I had gazpacho, then tuna, then catalan cream. Starter and main course were excellent. Dessert was pretty good also. Dinner lasted several hours, which was normal for Barcelona.
