We've had good luck with Trip Advisor steering us to some treasures. This one is the best. After all, its been there for 50 years. It was relatively quiet when we got there - we got stools. All the food excellent and prepared in front of you. Beers are good. Mostly locals. Great atmosphere. We loved it.

We went here also last year, in the old Barceloneta district, swearing to come back again. So it happened a few days ago.
It's a long and narrow bar with some cantilever small tables in an adjacent space, where you can only seat on barstools.
Always full of people, maybe drinking beer while waiting standing for a seat and have meal. Generally you don't have to wait too much: cookers and service are very efficient.
Then the manager is very funny, the place not noisy, although crowdy and food and beer very good quality.
Some example to try? Tapas of large shrimps, tenderloin topped with paté slices, sliced cooked sausage, marinated sardines, thuna fish, salmon, spanish mountain ham (Jamon serrano), mixed pale and dark ale, everything very pleasing to the palate.
Unfortunately prices are rather high, compared with the other places in this area, but it's worth.

If you really want to know about the local tapas done by locals for local people, don’t miss el Vaso de Oro. I remember them there “from always”. Excellent well-brewed beer and high quality food.
Open all day.

Recommended by Lonely Planet Pocket Barcelona and it did not disappoint us! Fun staff and the real deal with a few tourists but mainly locals. Where can you eat foie gars in a bar? Loved it, also had the spicy tuna and white bait and the local beer.

We were told not to miss El Vaso de Oro on our trip to Barcelona! Great, loud, and busy traditional Spanish tapas atmosphere. We went around 9pm on a Friday and it was obviously very busy with lots of people coming in and out. They make their own beer which is AMAZING! Know what you want when asked by the barmen, otherwise they will skip over you and not return for several minutes. They are very busy and clearly take pride in their jobs, as they should! We had the foie gras and it was delicious. Be careful, they serve loads of bread. Easy to fill up on this and forget to leave room for another tapas bar later in the evening. Highly recommended.
