Description: A respected restaurant run by the Freixa family has been here for many years, but when son Ramon took over the kitchen, the classic Catalan cuisine was turbo-charged with new inventiveness and a buzz of excitement began about the place that has never ceased. Dark-eyed chef Friexa is now a Spanish celebrity, with telly appearances and popular cookbooks. The decor is quite traditional, perfect for romantic trysts or business meals. The creative menu includes dishes like potato and olive millefeuille with crayfish crumble, fennel ice cream and roman lettuce hearts, main courses of roasted lobster with rabbit ribs a la milanese with home-made pasta and dried fruits, and sweet -- Freixa's first love -- of an astounding Chocolate 2004.5 The Cardinal Points of four chocolate dream dishes.

A very good restaurant in a calm street. They came back to origins after a period of more "design" cuisine as their prices did. It's a very calm place to discover true traditional dishes cooked in very high standards of elaboration and qualitiy of products. A hidden gem out of the crowds of tourists invading the Rambles - Passeig de Gràcia area. If you want to have a nice dinner in a nice place discovering dishes that you will not forget that's your place. Good relation quality/price, extense choice of wines and correct and efficient service. I'm catalan, not a tourist, and I like to go there with my wife or mi family to celebrate birthdays and special things. Informal dress code but wear a little bit elegant to feel comfortable. There is a parking just in front and a subway station (Muntaner) very close. The kind of places we would like to find when we travel to other countries.

The restaurant décor is clean, uncluttered and modern. The service is quick, efficient and pleasant without being as precise or formal as in some restaurants of a similar standard.

The food was very good, the Menú Degustació is a good balance of dishes, not large servings but sufficient so we felt sated but not stuffed at the end of the meal. The dishes themselves were a nice mix of tastes and textures, for instance the slightly unlikely combination of Monkfish and lentils cooked with ham worked very well. The pear in wine served with the pork was like mulled wine / gluhwein made solid, lovely.

The menu, at 35€ :
Carpacio de Gambes de Palamós amb Picada Catalana
Caneló de Bolets amb Mató
Rapet amb “Lentejas o las Tomas o las Dejas”
Melós d’ Ibéric amb Peres al vi
Pastís Calent de Xocolata amb Oli i Sal

The wine lists was also reasonable, we had two bottles of a light fresh young Montsant at 11€ a bottle. Together with at least two large bottles of water, and two bread baskets the overall cost came to 48€ per person.

This Restaurant used to be (When it was called Racó d'en Freixa) one of those fancy, expensive restaurants in Barcelona, when all the snobs used to go and tried to got seen there. Those times are over and the recession brought new times to these people.
Ramon Freixa is not there anymore, he's in Madrid now (running a "fancy restaurant") and his parents (Original owners) are taking care of the restaurant. I have to say that they are doing a great job. They came back to the traditional Catalan Cuisine (That's the reason of the new name) and the restaurant now has more than reasonable prices, I would say GREAT VALUE food. You have 3 options: Two diferent degustation menus or choose your dishes from the menu. The degustation menu it's Awesome¡¡ Only for 35 Euro/person + wine (Which is not expensive at all) you have 4 dishes plus 2 deserts that are traditional Catalan food, like the Canalons or the pork, the Srimp Carpaccio is delicious.
Service is just ok, not the best in town, but ok.
For me, the big mistake of this restaurant is that the cook likes to put a pinch of Maldon salt to every single dish (Also to the Chocolate desert) and I hate this¡¡
Also, the wine list should grow a little bit and there were some wines listed that were not available.
I would suggest that they put some music, the restaurant was so quiet that you can hear what they were saying in every single table
A place to go back but I will ask them to avoid the pinch of salt for me, please¡
