“Great Menu”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We were traveling with family consisting of 4 young children and 7 adults. Seating posed no problem and service was excellent. The menu offered a variety of Catalan dishes. We found the food to be better than average with a few excellent candidates. The ambiance was underwhelming but that is not we were looking for.

“Good pure and simple food”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

Found it a very pleasant experience, even though we had our 2 year old son with us, as the employees did their best to accommodate us. Good simple food, mainly locals eating there

“Very average”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

Since on Christmasday not many restaurants are open, we happened to enter this one. Not a terribly good idea. Waiters were friendly, to start with. We wanted to have tapas, but the menu doesn't offer all the regular ones. And some have hefty prices, like the fried baby squid (16,60€) which wasn't worth the money ( some places charge 1/3th of that price for exact the same dish !
We had some sausage and jamon, but of course that's not really an elaborate dish. The bread with tomato was nothing special either. We also had stuffed olives; again : OK, but nothing special.
Conclusion : skip this one; it's very average.

“Ok, but there are better places”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

For the prices, which are standard tourist-trap prices, the food was just ok. We had some calamari, pan con tomate, and a cheese plate. Nothing very exciting about the place, seemed fairly touristy. I will say though that the table next to us were having a great time eating calcots with romesco sauce, so maybe they do certain things particularly well. For the prices though, there are better places.

“A delightful way to experience Catalan cuisine.”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

A pleasant, short stroll up from the Plaça Catalunya, El Glop offers outdoor and indoor seating. With a hat tip from a local, we knew exactly what to order for dinner and perhaps that is the trick to this restaurant. We enjoyed small plates of delicious roasted almonds, olives and the traditional pan amb tomaquet. Then we ordered the Calçots. What a fun, unique local item. Our waiter returned with plates that held plastic gloves and bibs. The Romescu dipping sauce was amazing and we were shown how to eat the Calçots. The flavors of the grilled Calçots blended well with the sauce and we were so happy that the portions were ample. We also enjoyed the beans, lamb chops and the buttifarra in the meat course. Best of all, we enjoyed creme catalana with a glass of Cava. We had a blast with the wait staff. They were helpful, fun and excellent at their job. A perfect memory of Barcelona! In fact, the meal was so enjoyable, I returned with another friend to show off our discovery and that lunch was wonderful.
