Description: Among the three hundred diners that fill this 30-year-old restaurant every day, you may spot the King of Spain, movie stars, and politicians. Botafumeiro has to be a well-oiled machine to keep all and sundry happy and coming back for more, and it does. The decor is so trad, with wood railings and banisters, white table linens, and nautically-themed art and objets. The menu focusses on the sea, try fruits de mer for two to start, followed by anglerfish fisherman's stew with white beams or one of the barbecued fish, then a dessert of Belgian chocolate volcano with chocolate sherbet. Wine list is an ambassador for Spanish wines.

This is a classic restaurant that was recommended by our hotel concierge. It's a temple to seafood and offers a superb selection of shellfish and fish dishes served in a real traditional style. If you like seafood you'll love this place.

What should have been a great evening of fresh seafood and ambience turned out to be such a disappointment.

No atmosphere in the area we were seated, it seemed reserved for tourists, away from the hum of the main restaurant.

I love my food, but my sole in cava and prawn sauce was so overcooked, it was congealed and had obviously been sat waiting on the pass fir a considerable time.

Not wanting to inconvenience the rest if the table (having seen a 'replacement dish' for the table opposite take 20 mins to arrive), I politely informed the waiter, and explained that I didn't want a replacement, but only ate 2 mouthfuls.

No apology, and no deductions from the bill (thankfully this was resolved after some discussion).

Add to this an army of waiters, who constantly had to be reminded to pour our wine, and incidents of other people being poured other tables wine, and the phrase keystone cops comes to mind.

There are loads of good restaurants in Barcelona, do yourself a favour and visit one if them!

Nice atmosphere with average service and would recommend if looking for seafood but choices for other alternatives were limited and obviously not their specialty. Pleasant evening turned sour when we received the bill with a charge of 5 euros/person for a small plate of potato chips and olives, plus the extra charge for bread. Topped off with waiter spilling 3 glasses of wines without apology or replacement made for a disappointing evenibg that was definately not up to expectation based on other reviews and restaurant classification.

The service here is hard to beat. Our table had at least 2-3 waiters we did not want for anything. This is a beautiful old world restaurant, although a little stuffy. They are famous for their seafood, which is beautifully presented and served. One in our party was not pleased with his appetizer so the manger came over and was very concerned that he did not like it and offered another item and removed the first from the bill. We each had different seafood entree's and we all thought they were good, but not great, which was kind of disappointing in it was our very first night in Barcelona and this place had very good reviews. It was also our most expensive meal while in Barcelona. I still think it was very good vs average in my rating. "Good" would have been a better choice for my overall rating.
