Description: Opening its doors in 1836 to begin offering over 150 years of excellence, Restaurant de les 7 Portes is truly the most classic of Barcelona's eating places. Here, you can enjoy the finest Catalan cooking in an intimate setting or in one of the spacious banquet halls, accompanied by Spain's best wines and "cavas" (sparkling wines) from the well-stocked cellar. The restaurant is housed in the Pòrtics d'en Xifré, a building declared a national monument and the first place in Barcelona where running water was installed. In 1942, it became the property of Paco Parellada, founder of one of the foremost dynasties of restaurateurs in all of Catalonia.

If you choose to go there, you will well remember it. Important people went there, like Picasso, John Wayne and others. Reservation is very important. Service excellent and so is the food.

“Tourist Trap!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2013 via mobile

We learned our first night in Barcelona to be careful with tourist traps. I ordered the paella with fish only. It was average at best. My wife ordered cod, which was chewy and overcooked. Also, it was not on the menu that shrimp was included in the dish, which she is allergic to. The substitute meal was bland steamed vegetables and fried spinach balls. Not at all worth the 20+ euro. The one bright spot was the cannelloni which was very good.

Find something more authentic than this place.

“Good experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2013

I was initially wary about 7 Portes as it is a big tourist draw. However, we had dinner at 1800, well before most European diners, and it was not crowded at all. The food was delicious and priced right. The staff were very professional and friendly as well. It was a good experience.

“I don't want to recommend this restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2013 via mobile

My friends suggested this restaurant. so i try to get there.
But i disappoint. because it was very very salty. so i try to eat with pain which they give us. I didn't order.
Why they are charge for the pain?
So i feel so bad. salty. expensive. Manythings.
