“Great Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2012

We had a superior room at the Agora ,you get daily maid service and a fridge The Agora is terrific value for money with good breakfast choices . Dinner has to be ordered 24 hrs in advance ,for what reason we did'nt discover ,good value at €9.50 per person . We are in our late 50's and found the hill leading up to the Agora a bit daunting after a full days sightseeing in the City. We found the staff to be friendly and efficient ,all in all an a very enjoyable stay .

Room Tip: If possible opt for the superior room ,they are located on the ground floor amongst the professors a...

We stayed at Residencia Ágora BCN three times in last 3 years and nothing has changed, all services are the same year by year.
It is a campus near Mundet underground station in a quite area. It is also easy to approach by night bus number 4 from Placa Catalunya at nights.
The building is new, modern and colourful. The normal rooms (cheapest) are simple furnished with a private bathroom. The beds are not side by side, but they can be moved in some rooms. There is no fridge in the rooms.
The staff is nice and helpful. Most of the guest are young people, who spend their holiday, so they are a little bit noise and don't care about other guests.
Breakfast choice is good.
Residencia Ágora BCN is recommended for young people, budget travellers and good sleeper.

Disadvantages:
Very noisy at night.
There are always water everywhere in the bathroom during take a shower.
Difficult printing facility.
Strange toaster.
There isn't any supermarkets near Residencia Ágora BCN.

I returned to this university-dorm style hotel after several years of absence and it is all I always liked then and more now. If you are traveling next year to the World Mobile Congress and are not very happy with the astronomical prices that hotels charge during this busy event, try the Agora. You get clean, ample accommodations together with security and a short walk distance to the subway (Mundet Station). This is neither a business hotel nor a hostel. It is a modern and clean student and faculty residency which is run by an organization which specializes in hotel management higher education. All rooms are either single bed or two double beds both with private bathroom. There is a gym in the the same floor as the dinning room. Internet access is provided freely if you take a 10-BASET cable with you. They can sell you one if you like. Breakfast is always included while lunch and dinner (university cafeteria style) are available for a modest fee. There is no bar and no alcohol consumption is permitted on premises.
While I walked the halls at the World Mobile Congress in Montjuic, I realized that customers looking at us (business people) couldn't tell who paid $300 or $30 a night for their hotels in Barcelona that week. I paid $30 and closed a couple of deals worth several thousand dollars in future business. Which goes to show that staying at an expensive hotel doesn't necessarily help you get more business. I will be back to the AGORA next year.

Room Tip: There is a sports facility run by the city right next to the hotel. It has outdoor courts, pool and...

The hall of residence ‘Agora’ is a three-storeyed building, situated on a hill just across from the stadium. It’s about 75 minutes to the airport by underground (line 3 to the Pg. de Gràcia) and by train (R2 from the Pg. de Gràcia). It’s ten minutes’ walk to the Mundet stop and two minutes’ to the beautiful gardens at the Parc del Labyrint. Near the Agora is (probably) a supermarket (Consum), but I couldn’t locate it anywhere.
A single room is simply but nicely equipped, incl. a private bathroom (shower) and air conditioning. Don’t be surprised: there is no TV set! A standard room is cheaper than a superior room because the cleaning persons come once a week. Maybe there are more differences between these two types but I’ve noticed only one. I didn’t use the internet connection at my room, but I know that you can do it for free if you bring your own notebook. There are also two computers in the reception hall, but you should take into account that they are always occupied. If you need to print something (for example your boarding pass), you should ask the receptionist. He/she will do it for you for a small fee.
The breakfast is served from 6.30 a.m. till 10.30 a.m. in the same hall where you can have lunch (13.00-16.00) and dinner (20.00-22.30). Both the lunch and the dinner cost 9,50 - so it isn’t expensive. You have to pay for it in advance (24 h. before) at the reception desk. You can also use the slot machines in the living room opened from 7 a.m. till the midnight if you feel like a cup of coffee or a sandwich. There are also two slot machines next to the dining- hall.
I would recommend this place to everyone except the elderly people because of one con: it’s a bit noisy at night.

Upon looking at this "hotel" on another website I thought, "What a great hotel, good price AND it includes breakfast? Sign me up!" Turns out this "hotel" isn't actually a hotel, just a student campus that gets rented out during the summer to travellers. At least the beds were clean and the breakfast was included because other than that, the room was not as clean as it could, or should, have been. I do, however, recommend this "hotel" to people that are travelling on a budget.
