This hotel could be really great but just a few things need sorting out, although some may be unsurmountable.

The positives are that its in a good location, just three blocks from Passeig de Gracia and close to Girona Metro station. The room was a good size. Some people have criticised the rooms for being too small but it was big enough for two people for three nights. Our room had a terrace which was great and it was lovely sitting out there on an evening with a drink. There's a TV and the bed was very comfortable, in fact probably the best hotel bed I've had. I understand fully why they prioritise a big comfy bed over having more space in the room, its definitely something I'd do. There was a lounge where they serve breakfast and there's a tea/coffee machine, so that was handy, as not all hotels in Spain have tea/coffee facilities in the rooms.

On the negatives it was quite noisy. There is currently refurbishment work going on and at times this could be disturbing, particularly in the mornings and there was little respite from it - they seemed to be working from 8am until 8pm constructing a patio area (which was the noisiest aspect) but the work going on inside the hotel wasn't so bad. There was also a lot of noise from other rooms, could do with some better sound-proofing. The terrace doors also make some noise, from both people closing them (how they are closed is a bit difficult and you couldn't avoid making noise!) and the wind would shake the glass.

The bathroom is really small and it was difficult at times to negotiate yourself in it when trying to get out, with the floor towel getting in the way of the door. Plus there is no door on the shower, and just a glass wall, so the bathroom floor gets very wet. The glass wall wasn't sealed well in our room so the water would get out underneath it and make the floor even more wet.

The staff were friendly and the design is cool, its the kind of look I like and I think if they could sort out just a few small things it could be a great place to stay. I know I've criticised a bit but none of the things I've mentioned spoiled the stay at all!

Room Tip: Maybe with the current construction work you're better off staying overlooking the road - its no...

I was not expecting much because of the very reasonable price, and I had a lovely surprise. The staff were amazingly nice and friendly, both in emails before my arrival and during my stay, and I would really like to thank them for giving me a wonderful welcome to a wonderful city. I loved the quirky design of the hotel, particularly the books wall in the reception and the wallpaper on the first floor... I won't say any more or I'll spoil the surprise. I see some reviews have mentioned that the décor in the rooms was sparse, but I really liked that, and everything was very clean. The location is fantastic, in a great part of town. The sea was only about 15-20 minutes' walk away, the Barrio Gótico about 15 minutes' walk, Passeig de Grácia less than 10, the Sagrada Familia is also walkable... In fact the whole city is walkable from the Praktik. There were masses of nice restaurants close to the hotel as well. The only down side was that it was a bit noisy after 9 a.m. in the mornings because of some building work, but that should be finished soon, and who wants to stay in bed all day in Barcelona! I certainly hope I will be staying at the Praktik again in the near future.

May be the hotels in Barcelona are really expensive, but we felt that we definitely overpaid for this. The room was very small with no space for clothes and the breakfast was outside in another cafe, which was just juice, coffee and a sandwich. The best thing in the hotel was the patio where you could have your own lunch or coffee. The location was good - tha's the best thing about this place.

Dear guest,
We are glad you have enjoyed our location and our patio. As you have mentioned, in fact Barcelona is one of the most expensive cities in Spain for lodging. We consider our prices are adequate, as in comparison to other hotels in our location we have an excellent value for money offer. Our rooms have the standard dimensions for a 2 stars hotel.
We would like to let you know that we are now offering our breakfast service inside the hotel.
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about your stay and we wish to see you again in another time.

Best regards

I stayed in this hotel recently for 8 days. The positives are that it has a good location, the desk staff are nice and the rooms are clean. The negatives include room decoration that is so sparse it makes a hostel look grand and the absence of some key services like a fridge and phone. The hallways are rather cheaply done but the worst problem is noise!!! In the first room I had the people above stomped around all night. Staff moved me to another room and you could hear the people in the next room as clearly as if they were in my room. One night the couple in the next room came in at 1:30 am and had a huge fight that included swearing and crying until I went down to the desk and security intervened. Out of 8 nights only two nights were quiet. In addition the hotel was renovating and during the day guests were subjected to hammering and drilling which is really not fair. Putting up a sign apologizing for inconvenience does not fix the problem.

Room Tip: Noise is a fatal flaw here. For the price the rooms and services chould be better.

Dear guest,

We appreciate your comments about the location, cleaning and staff. It is true that the rooms are basic in services, but we give priority to the good rest of our customers.
We apologize if you ever felt uncomfortable by the works of expanding and improvement we are making at the hotel right now. In this case we even offered you to change to The Praktik Rambla with no extra cost for you, but you refused. It is very important to us that our customers feel comfortable in a way, and we regret that you had so many coincidences with disrespectful costumers during your stay but this kind of things are not in our hands.
If you came back to Barcelona, we hope you could give us another chance and see the improvements we are making.

Sincerely,

Stayed in room 212 facing the interior courtyard. Room was about 4x3 meters, with a balcony, separate shower/toilet, small table, drawers and bedside table.
Hotel is clean, beds made, towels changed and bin emptied daily. No fleas, lift works properly, goes to all floors, Mirror above the handbasin, hair dryer, no smells and staff were welcoming and friendly.
Rooms ending N°s 05/06/07/08 face the main street. There is a bar opposite the hotel. Walls aren't particularly soundproofed. Air conditioning worked perfectly, if a bit noisy. Sleep with earplugs.
View of the interior courtyard is the back of other buildings. King sized beds are firm, but not hard. Lighting is minimal, but no major problem. WiFi is free but not encrypted. Fastest connection speed is at computer lounge on 1st floor.
Access to room is via credit card pass. Only hotel staff can access your room. Left my stuff in the room in complete confidence. Felt no need to use the secured luggage lockers.
Get breakfast by walking around the block. There are plenty of cafés, supermarkets and a bread shop. Can get a cup of decent tea at the Indian restaurant Mayura near the hotel.
