This hostal is situated quite in the front of Gothic and china area of the Old town. The location is great for young people to stay. It have extraordinary neo-cosmic&alternative design with Communist elements :)
Very friendly & democratic atmosphere. U can have tea, coffee and toast with marmalade or cornflakes included. Good time to change with couple of impressions with other people there.

Room Tip: The rooms for one - very small. But you buy just a really good place for sleeping. The ergonomic de...

Great location and value as long as you are OK with a hostel-type setup (communal area/table for complimentary breakfast; no hotel services or amenities; hotel is more like apartments in a residential building). Rooms are small, cool white modern and the a/c works well. Just make sure not to get a room with the toilet/shower combo stall - it's like taking a shower on a train. Other rooms have much bigger separate toilet/shower areas. Managers Emma and Petra could not be nicer and more helpful - and you'll meet some very nice people.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get a room with the closet-like shower/toilet combination.

This hotel is at good location in Barcelona. You can walk to Ramblas, La boqueria market, gothic neighborhood, El Raval, and all essential services are within walking distance. Nevertheless, sleeping quality was poor for a middle-aged couple like us. We stayed in a "large room" but it wasn´t large enough for the two of us. The concept of the toilet/shower with half door is not a good idea at all! The good thing about the bedroom was the comfy bed, and the fact that our room window faced an indoor yard belonging to another building, so we didn't hear any noise from outside. Still, opening the window wasn´t a good idea, either. I suggest vacumming the cigarette butts on the ledge, they cause a bad impression. Another disturbing point was the fact that the guests in the rooms next door didn´t allow us to get any good sleep all 5 nights. TV was on very loudly, we could hear them speak, laugh, walk on the corridor, shut doors, everything (thin walls ???). Breakfast is on the basis of help yourself. Ok, making your own coffee, getting milk from the fridge, opening pots of cheese and ham and bags of bread, but to what extent is this hyginic? Another thing they do not mention when booking is that you have to pay on the first day. I stayed in so many different hotels, this was the first to demand paying on the first day. I chose this hotel for the price and location, Barcelona is very expensive to stay, but next time I shall bear that in mind and pay more.

Room Tip: get the largest rooms

I managed to find this gem of a place, more like a hostel to some, at a relatively decent price for the summer, since accommodations located in a central place like Plaza Catalunya usually costs a bomb.. Located in front of the Universidad, in a youth-infested and relaxed neighbourhood and it was hard to find since it was located within a residential complex with iron-clad doors and the intercom. The only clue was the number '82' and 'Hola, Hello & Hallo' sign on the wall.

Once in the building, take the old-school European style rickety lift and check in into the lobby washed in cosy, white light with the friendly receptionist. You will be given your own main door key and passcode to the first and 2nd floors' main rooms level and your own room key.

The kitchen & eating area is welcoming with complimentary snacks & drinks and DIY breakfast/lunch/supper. Much appreciated and awesome concept.. You can make yourself hot drinks, have cold juices, sandwiches or have a bowl of cereal with cold milk.

The room is pretty small but bathroom (ensuite, and that's important!) surprisingly comfortably large enough. Comfy bed with control settings for dim lighting, iphone plug-in for music, great air-conditioning and flat screen TV. Wi-fi reception in the room is not strong and not that regular in the lobby area. You could use the desktop computer however their internet connection really needed servicing..

Stayed here only for a night on route to the airport so the tininess of room is ok. It is just me, or Barcelona's accommodations in the summer are quite pricey hence 'hostels' are the choice for me but by European standards, they are TINY. Almost the size of Japanese business hotel rooms (lol) I stayed in another 'hostel' prior to here, nearer to Estacion de Nord, at Marina, which was quite similar in concept but this place is more homey and personal.

Location: Walking distance to Plaza Catalunya, home of protests and demonstrations (haha, they are a way of life there..) and La Rambla. Buses straight to the hotel outside El Corte Ingles which is convienent. Great eating spots and shops along the way. Awesome cupcake shop right outside this hotel.

In a nutshell, stay in this charming little place and let yourself in and out just like a local. You'd fall in love with this quirky yet cosmopolitan city even more, just like I did.

Good choice, good price and good localization. Nearby the subway, las ramblas, plaza cataluña. I would stay there again for sure!

Chic & Basic Tallers was simply a perfect place to stay in Barcelona. Friendly staff, super-central location, with all the service you need from accommodation (clean rooms, beautiful rooms, nice DIY breakfast). It made out stay in Barcelona even better.
