Although this hotel is conveniently located near the centre, it is in one of the seediest streets we found in Barcelona, and was extremely noisy all night long. Our rooms on the 4th floor (402 & 403) gave out onto an alleyway where junkies gathered every night and made an unbelievable amount of noise. Windows were not double-glazed, so it was hard to get a good night's sleep. The heating was not easy to adjust (mostly too hot), but opening the window was not really an option. We were surprised that the hotel did not serve breakfast. On the good side, the rooms were clean and reasonably sized for a city centre hotel and the bathroom was large. The hotel is just a few minutes walk from La Rambla and the Liceu metro station.

Just got back from a four night stay in Hotel Alba. It is a fantastic location putting you just off La Rambla mid way between Plaza Catalunya and the Port area. The nearest Metro is Liceu on the green line and very handy. The best part is that the hotel alba is right near a fabulous food market where you can pick up delicious fresh food and juices for breakfast or lunch or eat right there if you like. This makes up for not having tea/coffee facilities in the room which i usually must have. I paid €350 euros for the four nights and it ran into a bank holiday weekend at that. The staff were all very nice and friendly. It was very easy to access the free fast wireless internet with your laptop in the room.
Yes, there are hookers about but i challenge anyone to find a hooker free spot in barcelona. Barcelona itself is elegant and electric place - i will go again as soon as i get a chance and will stay at the hotel alba again.

I did not actually stay at this hotel, however I own an inbound travel agency here in Barcelona. I saw the hotel as I was walking past and, as usual with a hotel I do not know, I entered and asked for a card with a view to offering it to clients. This was given.

However, when I asked how many rooms the hotel had, a fairly normal question, the person on the desk became increasingly rude and abusive, stating that he was not obliged to give any information to anyone. I was shocked by this so asked him nicely again, but his attitude became worse until the point that I decided to leave. This reaction was surprising and unexpected, and entirely atypical of the usual reaction from hotels when a potential client asks for a hotel card (something that I have done on countless occasions). As can be imagined, they are usually happy to provide information that might help sales.

I called the following day to complain to the director, but the same person answered the phone (although he initially claimed that he was not the same person). He refused to pass me onto the director (sometimes claiming that he was himself the director and sometimes claiming that he was not authorised to pass calls to the director or give his/her name). He again became increaingly rude.

In many years working in the industry in Barcelona I have never experienced anything like this, and therefore would recommend all visitors to Barcelona to steer well clear.

The Alba was recommended by some friends. I stayed there for four nights, the staff were very helpfull, and patient as my Spanish is not too good at present, ( but will improve by my next visit.) and I would stay at the Alba again. It is a really nice clean place, in a central location, short walk to the main bus station , and La Ramblas is just at the top of the street, if you fell out out of bed you would land in La Boqueria, (social meeting place and fruit, meat, fish market ...well give or take a bounce or two from a nice cafe, or Restaurant. ) Picture this, you arrive in Barcelona, get the airport bus to Catulunya, (main stop), drop bags off at the Alba, and hit La Ramblas, within 5 mins walk, look out for the Princess, and her husband a fellow street entertainer the drunken Pirate, great people.............best meals where found off the Ramblas.........( no offence intended to La Ramblas Traders ).....be it ......Le Born or El Ravel ....the food is good, as a general rule of the thumb, be entertained at La Ramblas , eat at Born or Ravel, and do please excuse my bad English, and yes I am English.

Stayed for 4 nights and it was good value. Staff were friendly and helpful, room very clean with a good bathroom. Location, just off the Ramblas, behind the boqueria was perfect. Area is lively, great bar/restaurant just across the street, tucked away in a courtyard. Cafe con leche and croissant just 1.5 Euros at the bar on the corner - beat that on the Ramblas!

We stayed for 3 nights in this hotel, and we were very pleased with the standard overall. In fact, we were quite pleasantly surprised after reading the previous reviews! It was extremely clean, and in a superb location (just off La Ramblas and near the metro). We found the hotel to be great value for money and the staff were pleasant - the manager knocked on our door on our final evening and gave us a box of chocolates! We definitely recommend people to come here, and believe you will enjoy it just as much as we have.
