This is a stop on the free Sandeman's walking tour. It's where Gaudi came to pray every day and where he was headed when he was struck and killed by a tram. It is also a location of explosions by Franco (the pock marks are in the wall of the church and were never airbrushed as Franco did with many of the locations he damaged in his fight to conquest Spain). Also it's a peaceful plaza and Woody Allen filmed a scene from Vicky Christina Barcelona here; Scarlett Johanssen and Javier Bardem shot a scene in the expensive restaurant in the hotel on the corner diagonal from the church.

A local restaurant owner recommended that we visit Placa Sant Felip Neri due to its historical significance.

It was a very poignant place, but well worth a short visit.

If you actually are sightseeing at 8:00 am, you can attend the daily mass held in the church. It is a small, unspectacular church. Basically, the type of place where you would have expected Gaudi to go to mass. They lock the church right after mass, so it is generally not open. As others have noted, this is a nice little area to walk through in a tour of Barri Gotic.

A lot of history in this little corner! Sadly, there is still damage from when it was bombed and people were killed. Gaudi used to worship here. It is quiet and peaceful now, often with laughter of the nearby little children. Vicky Christina Barcelona scenes also were shot here.

This was one of the stopping points on the Rick Steves self-guided walking tour of the Gothic Quarter, and it is a very poignant and peaceful spot to reflect on the history that has played out there. Watching the happy school children playing football in front of the bomb-damaged facade of the church was very moving moment for me.
