This was another beautiful church not quite in the main tourist area and like all churches in Barcelona it was fairly impressive. There was a fee to enter.

Beautiful lines. Baroque style. Not crowded or on my tourist travel patterns. Visually interesting both inside and out.

While the church has a medieval founding, the current building is one of the few Baroque structures in the city. It was founded by a King of Aragon with a religious order for dealing with captives particularly those captured in the wars with the Moors in Spain and North Africa. It also has famous Madonna relic. However, the real beauty of the church is the exterior with dome and statue of Mary and Child and an incredible amount of interior altarpieces shaped in the Baroque style. We enjoyed both the church and the plaza it sits on.

A nice, authentic church that is beautifully built yet is not one of the listed tourist attractions. Easy and quick access, a reall living church with beautiful architecture. Spiritually, there is a heavy emphasis on Mary vs. Jesus though there is plenty to see. There is no cost and no wait to visit so a welcome change of pace from all the other tourist sites.

It is not a popular place for visitors, nor does it look like much from the outside, but I really, really recommend that you take a look inside. The details are beautiful and you must go up behind the altar!
You don't have to pay to go in but there are people who open the doors for you and its nice to tip them :)
