I needed to change hotels fast and within budget. I booked this hotel via an online service and it seemed like the best choice for the value and close to the hotel I was moving from. It is in the Universitat area which is within walking distance of Plaza Catalunya and also near metro stations. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. It is basic hotel accomodation and the staff was polite.

Location I will give 2 thumbs up. But after a long day of walking lots of hills, standing in long lines for the popular attractions, and going to and fro on public transportation you want to come back to a nice hotel room with comfortable sleeping accommodations. Well this was not the case at Hotel Gran Ronda. The mattresses were extremely hard; making it difficult to get a good night sleep after doing all of the above. The room maintained a smell of mildew throughout our stay even after the cleaning staff had arrived. We had a room on the 4th floor that overlooked onto the private homes of the residents, but there was no noise from the outside. Most of the noise came from inside of the hotel. We could hear when guests would leave an come back to their rooms at all hours. To put it bluntly the walls were paper thin. We stayed for 3 nights. As I stated earlier location was great to metro stations, bus stops, Las Ramblas, and Plaza Catalunya, but once you returned it went downhill from there.

Beside the location that is fair all the rest was poor. Old style, shaking beds, no water presur, noisy. If we visit the city again we defenatly won't go back. In addition, the staff didn't do anything to make our stay more plesure beside our complains.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night before going on a cruise out of Barcelona. After searching for hotels on the internet for so long that my head was spinning, I finally decided on this hotel since it seemed close to everything and was a good price.

This hotel is a good middle ground for people who don't want to stay in a bare bones budget b&b or hostel but at the same time also don't want to spend a fortune on a first rate hotel. I believe we paid around $150 for the night so that's not bad by European city standards.

The hotel is located in a pretty quite area next to the Universidad metro (less than 5 min walk). I think it's better to stay here than the Las Ramblas area if you actually want to get a good night's sleep. The area is safe and the front door needs your swipe card to open.

Check in was smooth and I was relieved that they spoke English. After spending a week in Cartagena with nobody speaking English, it felt great to be able to communicate. One word of warning, the front desk person will tell you that breakfast is served every morning. What they fail to state is that they charge a rather ridiculous price for it. I don't remember the exact cost, but for a rather simple buffet breakfast of 10 or so items, I think we spent about $30 for 2 people and still left hungry. You're better off heading to one of the local cafes and probably having a better meal.

The room itself is pretty small but very clean. The balcony was adorable and I loved being able to stand there and watch the action below. The bathroom had marble lining the walls (or faux marble, you get the idea) and looked very modern. One small complaint was that the shower did not have any place to put toiletries except the floor so I had to keep bending up and down to get razors, shampoo, soap, etc. But no big deal.

Overall, we were satisfied with our stay. We love Barcelona and shall return at some point!

Rooms adequate but not much storage. Very clean and quiet location. Facilities all fine breakfast simple. Good location to metro, Gothic area, Ramblas and Raval. Staff cooperative and friendly. Stayed for 3 nights and would certainly return when we go to Barcelona for a city break.

Arrived in mid November air conditioning off heat on no control over it. Room on the in a stair well situation, no window to outside only onto stair well. No alternative other than to open the window so noise was a problem all night. Sink in bathroom would not hold water. Toilet seat needed attention reading lamp not working .Hotel has the Metro running under it or near as you can hear and feel the trains at night.

Positives:
Great location (walking distance to major squares and metro stations)
Very courteous staff
Very clean

We booked two weeks before arriving and got the rooms for a low price, considering the location and the stars. We opted out of breakfast, as we found a good bakery just approx 50m from the Hotel. The rooms are of good standard, nothing fancy, but with all that could be hoped for from a basic hotel room.

Negatives:
Noise from the corridors flows into the room a lot. We requested a room at a higher floor and were not disturbed by the sounds from the roads.
Springy beds

Overall, this is a very good hotel with helpful, kind staff, a high level of cleanliness and excellent value for the price.

Room Tip: The higher the better, for best view ask for a Sant Antoni-facing room
