I don't think I've ever stayed anywhere like this before. Firstly, it is very well situated right on Placa Catalunya, but, looking at it from the outside it seems to have no exterior windows. In fact, when you enter there is a very tall atrium with rooms off it. The room we had may or may not be representative. It had no exterior window which was a first for me. Overall, the room seemed clean and the furnishings of a good quality. The toilet and shower were in a partition and to get to the toilet you slid the door one way and the shower, you slid it the other. It took a while to discover this and I actually thought for a while the room had no shower! I think some discreet signs would assist given the fairly unique layout of the room, which is clearly designed to be as compact as possible. Whilst the shower was perfectly good it required being manipulated in a very specific way that wasn't immediately obvious. Again, there was no sign to assist.
The staff were never less than helpful and friendly. However, I can't say what the food and drink was like (why would you stay in the hotel when you are in the midst of Barcelona!). By the way, if you come back after about 11pm you may find the hotel shuttered! They put the shutters down so you have to ring and they will open up. Seems a bit OTT but the park can be a bit heavy late at night, I suppose.
Overall, I would recommend the hotel, given its cleanliness and situation. However, I would not wish to stay in the room we had for anything other than a shortish stay given the fact the room had no windows and was small.
Some recommendations: Go across the park to the department store El Corte Ingles and to the top floor café. It's not a great café but the view across the park and beyond is breathtaking and well worth the cost of an indifferent cappuccino. If you fancy a good cocktail, try the Ohla Boutique Bar on Via Laietana, a short walk away. For a good pint of Estrella you could try the Schilling Bar which was good. The best area for restaurants was La Ribera which again, you can walk to.
