This hotel may be small in size but it has everything which you could possibly want or need.
Best of all is the staff. They are friendly and go the extra mile for their guests.
We loved the roof top pool and and Sky Bar and hung out there just taking in the views both day and night. They also have a lobby bar that is accessible from the street and many locals patronize this cozy little bar. Again the staff were very accommodating and the drinks were delicious.
We were on a Breakfast plan and I must compliment the Chefs for the delicious food both hot and cold. It's a buffet and there is something there for everyone's taste. Eat breakfast here and you're good for the day! We are late night people so we would be the last in each morning for breakfast. In most places they would be rushing you and have a bad attitude because you were late. Not here, ..... the staff were just so accommodating and never once rushed us.
The front of the house staff are also very accommodating and would take time to explain to us directions or things we should know about the hotel.
Location Location Location. Not that we were buying but as the name states, "Central". From here you can walk just about anywhere which we did a lot of. It's an amazing city and if you're a Antoni Gaudi fan, you'll be super impressed. We save the Sagrada Familia for our last day and are glad we did. We were just blown away by the immensity of it all. I don't think I've ever spent an entire day walking around with my mouth open and my jaw dropping. A word of advise would be spend the extra few Euros and take a tour. If you don't, you could wait hours in line to get in unless you get up at the crack of dawn and wait in line then.
We visited different restaurants each night which was most enjoyable. Some sidewalk cafes but other very up market and just enjoyed the experience very much. It's so enjoyable to be able to go out to dinner at 11 PM and not be rushed. Then off to a nice club with beautiful music and then walk home taking in the sights. One of our favorite spots at sunset was the Bacardi Bar on top of the museum at the water front by the yacht club. Nice comfortable chairs and great service.
Grand Hotel Central has a very nice restaurant also, which is also where you have breakfast but for dinner it is much more formal. It is called A'valon Restaurant. We ate here on our last evening as we were taking a late flight on to Istanbul. Marvin was the Maitr'e D'Hotel and guided us through the menu and suggest certain dishes which were more of a local nature. Everything was again just delicious and as a hotel guest one received a 10% discount from the bill. Price was not over the top and I would have to say it was very good value for money. I had, "Our Cannelloni", which was fresh Cannelloni, stuffed with a lightly seasoned cod, with a Bechamel Sauce with Idiazabel Cheese. This was paired with a Spanish Sauvignon Blanc. Just the ticket for something light before an overnight flight to Turkey. :) I see on here several have complained about street noise plus noise from other rooms. We stayed on the 5th floor and I can honestly say we did not experience any disruptions what so ever. Our room was very nicely appointed with a view out over the city very similar to the view from the roof pool. It was clean and tidy and the bathroom was large plus had good water pressure. There was also an in room safe which is must for storing passports, money, etc.... . I can not say enough about just how nice and friendly the staff were. A great team and I would give them 5 stars all around. We will be back.

Room Tip: We had a late check out and the manager arranged for us to use the SPA that evening to shower and dr...

Just home after a 10 night stay in Grand Hotel Central, this was our 3rd stay at this hotel. Every year we just enjoy it more. High points from this stay include: The staff, reception staff are so friendly and helpful- (curly haired receptionist- helped us change room on our 2nd day to room 405 which was amazing- the staff at breakfast always welcomed us with a smile and the offering for breakfast is very good.
The roof top pool is just so relaxing-we did no sightseeing instead staying at the roof top pool everyday with the food, drink and service excellent.
I can say nothing bad about the hotel-our room was to the front however we did not notice any street noise- missing Grand Hotel Central already and will be going back for our 4th time next June.

The staff, the location, the design, the bars especially the roof top Sky Bar with the pool! But beware that this hotel is so nice so you might never want to leave it so you miss a lot of museums and other sights in the city. The breakfast was also great and the maitre there was always a pleasure to meet in the morning. It seems to be a very well managed hotel, very well maintained, clean-good housekeeping. As it's right in the city center by a very busy street with a large number of traffic , it can be hard to sleep if you are like me, very easily aroused but I bought some ear plugs and that problem was no longer one. Hope to get back!

There's certain things I always expect when staying in a hotel and that's a comfy bed and peace and quiet at night. Unfortunately this is where the hotel fails dramatically. Granted the location is very central to most areas but this brings the road noise which is kind of expected. What isn't expected is when you are kept awake for two nights out of four because you can hear everything that goes on from the rooms around / above and below. I don't mean to say that that there's parties going on in the other rooms but you can hear all the conversations / any moving around but worst you can hear when they of to the toilet.

For a hotel with this rating it's substandard.

I appreciate your honesty about your stay.
Very rarely our guest find the rooms noisy from the next door neighbours, I will really like to know what happened and be able to understand better your unfortunate stay. I did not received any comments from you while you were here and I am sure we could have done something about it.
I will contact you privatly to discuss further. Best, Silvia de Blas, G.M

I looked at just about every 5 star hotel in Barcelona. After lots of research, i booked at the Grand Hotel Central based upon their very quick response to some inquiries that I made from their web site. The hotel was beautiful and well appointed, just as you would expect from a 5 star hotel in a major European city. WE had a Master Suite which was simply beautiful and spacious. What made this hotel perfect was it's location. We literally walked everywhere---Gothic, Born, La Rambla, Barcelonata, Would highly recommend this property

We have spent 4 nights in this lovely hotel recently with our 3,5 and 1 year old. Although this is not an especially designed family friendly hotel we were welcome and perfectly looked after by the staff. All of the staff speak good English, which cannot be said about the locals in general, but I guess you can expect that for this price.

The hotel is at an excellent location, basically everything worth seeing is within a 10-30 minute walk.

It was a surprise to see that food and drinks in the hotel, including the sky bar, were not outrageously highly priced compared to city restaurants, as some would expect.

It is very hard to find anything against this hotel but we found the following MINOR things:
- They seem to have just started serving food at the rooftop bar. It is very relaxing and we would have had dinner more times there, had there been other options than the tapas collection for two. During the day they serve snacks but they are not available for dinner.
- This is a 'design hotel' which feels nice but has its disadvantages in practical perspective. The ligting in the rooms were not very practical and, at least in our room, the bathroom was not separated from the bedroom by any door whatsoever so we had to remain very quiet and could not switch on lights in the bathroom after the kids went to sleep. This would have been a bit inconvenient even if we had been without the kids.

Otherwise there is really nothing negative to be said about this brilliant hotel. Will definitely book again on our next visit.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms face a 4 lane road with high traffic. Although they windows have strong noise prot...

This hotel is excellent, has excellent rooms and very nice rooftop bar and nice internal bar. Staff were very friendly and the hotel was in an excellent location. Food and Drink prices were comparable with surrounding places so good. The hotel has a cool vibe and it really is a nice place to stay, I was in a room facing the main road but would recommend getting either a higher floor room or one off the main road as road noise was quite loud. Would recommend the Hotel and would return there if in Barcelona again.
