A very good hotel close to plaza Catalunya, one of the most important squares as it is the begining of Las Ramblas. Nevertheless the area is quite quiet, very important when one stays there at the fiesta of San Jordy / San Juan, when there are lots of fire crackers in different parts of the city, but not in the hotel area. Very friendly welcome (we were adressed by name upon arrival) and the person at the reception was very helpful : immediately gave us a map of the city, mentioned the different bus tours and advised us on the areas to find some good restaurants, also referring to some of them which are less expensive because they're not on the normal "tourist path". Rooms are quite small but stylish; breakfast at the hotel is limited but quite good according to Spanish standards. Would certainly consider going back there because of its location and the helpfulness of the staff. Look out for offers, they sometimes offer you a 3 + 1 (extra night free), which makes it even more interesting. Try to ask for a room at the back, as at the front the buses can be quite noisy.

A good hotel convenient to Barcelona centre, nice contemporary decor and mostly friendly and helpful staff. A problem was resolved with minimal fuss, comfy rooms, not huge but big enough for a 5 night stay. Lots of bars and restaurant and shops all very close.

Room Tip: Our room was at the back and was quiet

The good things
- great neighbourhood
- close to everything
- the hotel building and foyer are beautiful
- rooms are clean and stylish
- hotel cleaning staff are friendly
- La Principal, a little bar on the corner of the block is awesome with great staff

The bad things
- the free wi-fi is crap
- the rooms are tiny
- the man working on concierge is utterly useless, couldn't recommend a good close by tapas restaurant, couldn't recommend somewhere for breakfast, couldn't tell us where to catch the train to France. No interest talking to us when we asked him a question - he wouldn't even look at us. Concierge is the reason I would never come back to this hotel and for the price we paid to stay here I'd have expected a lot more
- we stayed in the hotel with other friends but their room was $50AUD cheaper than ours per night

My advice, stay somewhere else.

We stayed at the hotel for 6 wonderful nights during the the summer. The whole experience was amazing, from the great location (two minutes walking from the Ramblas but yet very peaceful), through the beautiful interior design to the very helpful stuff. Highly recommended!!!

Closely located to a metro station it is very convenient to reach every attraction of Barcelona. Catalunya square and Las Ramblas are also within walking distance. The area around the hotel is very quiet so you are not disturbed by loud crowds during the night, as you might be in a hotel at las Ramblas. The room was small but clean and well maintained.

The property is well located close to Placa Catalunya and while the exterior of the hotel is nothing too exciting as soon as you pass though the massive door you are welcomed into a cool and well appointed lobby.

The staff are friendly and the rooms are comfortable. The bathroom was well designed while the rest of the room was stock standard. We didn't have much of a view to speak of facing the interior courtyard but this did mean our room was a fairly quiet one.

Price point I felt was a little steep but not outrageously expensive. A good little property and I would consider staying there again.

Stayed at Advance in July and had a terrible experience (see review). Took the time to enumerate concerns with front desk manager upon departure. Zero concern displayed and no consideration given. Once home, disputed charges with credit card company, thereby getting the attention of Advance Hotel management. Instead of any sort of refund, they offered credit for return stay.

Planned a return for January 2014. Called from the US on 26 November to book with them for the upcoming trip, and after four days of trying to speak with the "right decision maker", no one could verify that the credit ever happened. I have given up in disgust and will never return to Hotel Advance. The hourly employees were very, very nice. The problem is clearly with the owners and upper management. With over 35 years of operating, owning and traveling in hotels world wide, this is among the very accommodataions that I would never recommend at any price.
