“Hip and **** hotel.”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

This hotel is one of the coolest looking hotels with a good location, given it's right next to the iconic Torre Agbar. It has excellent accessibility with nearly every form of public transportation; taking the metro brings you to Plaça de Catalunya in under 10 minutes. The very spacious rooms look excellent and the layout is also very well thought out. Standard cable TV and a small flatscreen in the standard rooms. Buttons aside the bed give you complete control over the automatic shutters and lights in the entire room. Beds are a bit too firm which was a bit disappointing. The pool on the 10th floor is not very big but it is satisfactory, the nice views of all of Barcelona are breathtaking on the large terrace. The bar which also serves food is pricey but good. The only facilities I was missing was a wellness area (gym, sauna, etc.). Other than some small points of improvement our stay was great!

Room Tip: Upgrading to a better room will get you a significantly better view facing the city.

Stay for 4 nights, nice, quiet location to see many parts of Barcelona. The front desk folks are very friendly, offering local recommendation. Breakfast has a nice spread,
An improvement area is a firmer mattress will be much better.

Great room, great view (we were tower side) and really great location. We paid a bargain price for our stay through "otels". This price didn't include breakfast. The price was a little steep for breakfast (unless you binged on the free cava!!). Ample TV and there were handy 2 tier blackout/privacy blinds in our room. I found the wifi to be really good, my friend gave up with her phone but it was superfast via my iphone. The almost transparent shower cubicle was a little odd (thank goodness I felt pretty comfortable around my travel companion). There is a good shopping complex with supermarket (glories), a flea market, a metro stop and an awesome new design museum all within spitting distance. Admitedly, the swimming pool is the size of a postage stamp but there are freshly laundered beach towels to use on the many sun loungers and the view of the tower from the rooftop bar is absolutely spectacular. I cannot remember the name of the little place but if you leave the hotel entrance turn right and cross about 3 roads on the street opposite the glories complex there is a lovely very reasonably priced cafe for breakfast that had much better offerings than anywhere to eat in glories complex.
p.s. You can pick up the open top bus tour from just opposite hotel too, and therefore begin a circular trip from there (if you're prepared to fork out 26 euros for it!). There is also a free shuttle bus to a cool aqua park from a couple of streets over.
Really couldn't ask for more for the money from this super hotel!

Pros:

CLEAN Room & Bathroom
Fantastic Shower & Water Pressure
Blackout blinds were awesome (I sleep best in the pitch black)
Great location, metro & tram are literally a hop and a skip away
Safe neighborhood (not too touristy)
Rooftop Terrace (It was like an oasis... so enjoyable to relax up there after doing touristy things all day)
Mini fridge in room
Nice, Friendly & Knowledgeable staff (Sally was the best at helping with reservations!!-thank you)
Very pleasant and relaxing stay
Clean, modern architecture

Cons:
Not enough chairs around pool (they could EASILY fit another 10+ lounge chairs to accommodate more guests)
Could not figure out the wireless (not a big deal for me b/c I was 100% on vaca and did not want to deal with internet & email anyways)
Menu by the pool was a bit pricey for what it offered

Stayed here for four nights for our honeymoon. We really enjoyed the layout of this hotel and its style. The double motorized blinds were great to block out that unwanted sun when you want to sleep in. Located in one of the business districts of Barcelona and very close to the Tube, Transit, and Tram. Also the tube is very easy to navigate around, comparing it to Paris and London. Staff spoke very good english and was very helpful with directions and suggestions. Room was very clean and spacious and it was a safe neighbourhood to be in. As for location its about 20 euros to get to the bars/clubs (opens at 11:30pm - early morning) on the beach at night because the tube stops around midnight but other than that its short walk to the tube and it stops at all the main sights.

The hotel is located adjacent to Glories metro station making access to the city very easy. The hotel rooms are of a decent standard. Make sure you ask for a view of the tower. The pool is tiny and the staff less than attentive at the poolside restaurant. The food itself is expensive for what it is. Having said this the shopping centre opposite has a Carrefour supermarket, Starbucks etc. which is very useful. The Internet connection is.... Lets say poor and that's being generous... Reception provides you with codes and passwords to use per device... Cumbersome and not really what's expected in a 4 star establishment these days....

Room Tip: Ask for a view off the tower

We did not actually choose the Silken Diagonal but were booked there by a cruise company; the rate they offered seemed reasonable and from what we read on the internet, the hotel got solid reviews, so we said ok to the booking. We were pleased we did - it is a nice hotel to stay at.

The hotel is very modern and the room was sleekly furnished, with a large window that had a killer view of the city. From the moment we arrived until we left, the staff was very responsive and helpful. Our room rate included breakfast, which was plentiful and different from what we are used to - Cava was offered, right next to the orange juice and the savories included tasty vegetable components.

On the hotel's roof is a small lap pool, which was a nice place to go after a hot day of sightseeing. From the roof you can see much of the city and it was an especially beautiful vista at night.

Right across the street from the hotel is a shopping mall that we spotted very few tourists at; it was a good place to find food and pharmacy items and the food court was a nice place to grab a quick bite or sweet treat.

My only reason for not giving this hotel the highest rating is that you are just far enough from the city's main area so that you either have to hop a cab or navigate the transit system to get there. We did do a lot of walking but again, if you cannot do that, you will have to take a taxi or public transportation to visit other parts of the city.

Room Tip: Both sides overlook other commercial buildings, but it was overall a quiet location.
