Upon entering this fine hotel, you walk into a beautiful reception area of rich classical decor, irresistible sitting chairs and cozy sofas. Everything whispers relaxation and comfort. The front desk, reception staff, are meticulous with service and extremely accommodating answering questions and assisting with local needs. Handsome gentlemen and women dressed most professional and very respectable. I was able to get a wealth of information regarding bus routes, train, local restaurants and points of interest to make my stay most enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful morning buffet, which was included in my Costco Travel package deal. The morning breakfast buffet was one NOT to be missed, as we enjoyed SO many delicious types of food. It is the finest buffet I've ever seen or tasted in my experience. We were truly pampered with comfortable beds, deep tubs, awesome shower head and water pressure, complimentary tea time, and robes/slippers to use during our stay. Room lighting choices gave us the opportunity to turn the lights down from welcome bright mode to tv/relaxation mode, to reading mode and then nightlight, if needed. The maid service is just as top notch as everything else, as these fine individuals kept our rooms clean, tidy, and we never lacked anything in toiletries. We even came back to our rooms every evening to find turndown service! What a truly pampering experience! Both swimming pools are warm and it was nice to have either option. We enjoyed the hot sauna and steam rooms as well. We were disappointed the hotel didn't have a hot tub, which would've been wonderful to relax in after a day of walking. We didn't use the exercise room, but it appeared more than adequate with free weights, stationary bike, stair stepper and treadmill. We regularly used both indoor and rooftop bars and all drinks ordered were meticulously made by well experienced bartenders. Dinner was exceptional and highly recommend. We stayed on the 3rd floor, and weren't bothered by the street noise. Barcelona is a city busy with nightlife up into early morning hours, so I recommend getting a room either higher up and away from the main Las Rambles should you need a quieter room for sleep. Staying in Hotel 1898 made our first trip to Barcelona much more pleasurable. I was sad to leave when vacation was over. This hotel is truly unique in every way and stands out in providing the guest with a most relaxing stay.
