The location of this great hotel on La Rambla could not be much better - right on the romantic main walkway of historic Barcelona downtown, a block from La Boqueria gourmet food market, two blocks from great shopping and steps from the Old City and all it's haunts. But what makes it so great is the quiet luxury and incredible service.

We stayed here recently because I had a business conference at the hotel, and brought the family along for an extended vacation in Spain. The rooms are large and well appointed, with comfortable beds and bigger bathrooms than most European hotels. The rooms and public areas are all decorated in dark woods and colors, with gives everything a haze of yesteryear that makes it seem even more historic. (The building was originally a cigar factory, and a lot of that historic charm has been retained).

A rooftop bar and swimming pool overlook the entire city with 360-degree views, and the spa and underground pool in the basement are equally stunning. I had a massage after arriving from my 14+ hour flights, and it was the perfect way to adjust to Barcelona time.

One thing to note for families - there are no suites and no adjoining rooms. We had to split up with the kids in two rooms, since there was no way we would allow them to sleep in a room all be themselves. They loved the hotel anyway, so no worries there.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the side facing the ocean - great views and a little quieter than facing La Rambla...

Definitely recommend this hotel and will use it whenever in Barcelona. The staff are exceptional with outstanding customer service. I can't rate this hotel highly enough! All staff are highly informative and extremely polite and always willing to help. The hotel is in the Ras Lamblas area which is always busy with lots to keep you occupied.

This was our first trip to Barcelona. Given H1898's proximity to La Rambla, I was pleasantly surprised at how quiet the rooms are. The true jewel of the property is the rooftop deck. I loved having a quiet oasis in the center of the city. I felt like we were centrally located to everything that we wanted to visit in Barcelona and felt safe returning to the neighborhood later at night.

My mom and I stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and perfect for 2 people. We noticed that our room and the 4th floor were a little warm but the window did open in our room allowing for some fresh air. The hotel bar and restaurant were fantastic - great food and drinks! The hotel is in a great location - easy walk to Las Rambles. Really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again.

Comfort in every corner of this place. Dining on the roof was incredible. Room and bedding excellent. Location perfect to stroll the main street. Front desk Staff were cold to us we had to wait for our room because we got there early. We sat in the lovely lobby with our bags for at least 3 hours. Worth the price ...

Stayed here for a 2 night weekend break at the end of March. What a good choice we made. This hotel lives up to its Tripadvisor rating and more. The location is superb - handily placed for all the attractions and right in the heart of it on Las Ramblas.
We were a little worried that it may be noisy but we never heard a sound all night in our fifth floor room with a view over the rooftops. The room was beautifully furnished and spotlessly clean with robes slippers and lovely toiletries. There were 2 showers over the bath both nice and powerful and massive fluffy towels. The breakfast was included in our deal and the choice was extensive.
The service in the restaurant and throughout the hotel was friendly unobtrusive. and efficient. We loved the rooftop area and pool and could imagine what a haven it would be on a hot summers day. The views were amazing. We used the indoor pool and spa on both days and this was lovely to return to in the evening after a busy day's sightseeing. My only slight complaint about this was that the pool area was a little bit dark.
Just a few yards away from the hotel entrance on Las Ramblas is the market. Do not miss this - the sights of the fruit and fish displays are incredible. We ate at one of the fish stalls where you sit on a bar stool and watch them prepare the dishes - I think it was called Universal Kiosko. Look and see what other people are eating and just ask for that. It's very popular so you may have to wait at lunchtime.
I would also recommend the Barcelona City Tour Guide on the open top bus, There are 2 routes and you will see everything if you go on both routes. Get on and off as you go along to get a closer look at the sights. Good value @ 35 euros for 48 hours.
Another good tip if you are staying at this hotel is don't bother with a taxi to the airport - use the airport bus from Plaza Catalunya five minutes walk from the hotel and 5.90 euros each way. Excellent service every 10 mins and takes 25 minutes.
If you are thinking of a weekend break in Barcelona I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

Room Tip: Inside rooms on a higher floor are very quiet.
