“Good business hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2013

Pros: Good business hotel, professional and patient staff, very nice pool area (city / sea view)

Cons: Rooms are small and beds are extremely uncomfortable, small working table.

Neutral: Breakfast very Marriott average, but you know what your getting. Only 2 English-language channels (CNN, Bloomberg).

Overall: Does not measure up to 4-star rating.

Room Tip: Ask for room with the sea view

Stayed 4 days for a conference - and the big benefit of this hotel is that if you are participating in a conference in the conference center attached to the hotel you really can focus on the conference and have max 5 minutes between your room and the conference. So if you are in BCN for a conference the hotel has a major benefit here.

Also the breakfast is Ok - good (not outstanding) range of options of fine quality.

However i must say that my sleep quality here was just OK - somehow I did not find the beds comfortable. Also the desk in the room did not have any electrical outlets (meaning to recharge your computer you would need to disconnect the television).

Also with the "insert card to have electricity" you need an extra room key to for example recharge your mobile phone during the day - and during the night some friends found out that turning off the lights in the room also turns off any other electrical outlet except the television. So according to them charging your phone overnight is not possible unless you either unplug the television or leave the lights on.

In terms of facilities the fitness room on 13th floor had good view, with the cardio equipment having sea-views - pool and pool bar seemed OK although the outdoor pool was to cold to use in November when I was staying there. I should say that overall the fitness was of a good quality and size so you should be able to maintain a reasonable level of fitness when staying there.

Overall: OK I will stay here for conferences - but otherwise I would look elsewhere due mainly to location and the bed-quality.

Room Tip: Ask for room with seaview - city view is not really interesting

The AC Forum is attached to the convention centre. This is really the only reason to stay there. There are plenty of other good hotels within 100 metres which my colleagues recommended to me.

Rooms not really to 4 star standard. Attached a picture of the in-room audio system. I can't remember when I last saw an audio cassette player. I love the way the muzak CD box is resting open on top. It looks like the brand standards were written 1982 to show "hey we're in the CD age!"

€12 per day for internet so this isn't a hotel which wants to attract either business people or families. I guess bachelors on singles holidays may be the target market. Or those too old to want the internet.

Shower screen had 5 mm gap all the way round so a flood pretty much inevitable with every shower.

No safe in the room. No tea/coffee making facilities. Curtains had holes in. Minibar very expensive.

Breakfast was fine - usual buffet style but we didn't have to queue. Bed and pillows comfortable enough. Cleaned well.

Felt like they wanted to do the minimum to tick the boxes to look like a 4 star hotel. But there is more to good service than ticking boxes.

Room Tip: Best advice is to choose the hotel across the road. In the AC Forum, some rooms have a sea view whi...

I'm here for 4 nights on a conference and I'm noting the lack of basic features for a 4 star hotel. Ok so perhaps I won't get to use the video service...just as well there isn't one. Just a set of Spanish channels and the odd international. There's no safe in the room, and there are no power plugs close to the bed. Worse still there's not one at the desk in the corner. It's all a bit bijou, similar to the size of rooms in the center of Paris, only this isn't the center of Barcelona. It's the wrong end of Diagonal. The wifi costs 12€ per day but should be for 3 devices. That's not working so I'm writing this on my iPad tethered to my mobile.
The bed doesn't seem that comfortable and the pillows are the spongy holofill type...cheap springs to mind. I'm not sure what sort of a night's sleep I'm going to get.
I only live the other end of Barcelona (the better end of Diagonal) but with late nights and early starts I felt it was better to stay here rather than disrupt home life. I'm regretting that decision for sure.

We chose this hotel as some of us were staying nearby in our family's apartment and it was the most reasonably priced 4 star in the immediate area. We knew it would also be just a short walk to the beach and have a handy shopping centre opposite. Reception staff were very slow at check in and unapologetic after the bed in one of our rooms collapsed as it had a leg missing, my niece fell to the floor - not a good start. (They did however provide a different room, but the sea view was more obstructed). Our rooms were comfortable, clean, a reasonable size, with a good marble finish bathroom, no tea/coffee making facilities/safe/ironing board/free wifi (wifi only free in main public areas), and English tv channels limited to news. As previously mentioned the breakfast was expensive at 20 euros for the usual choices, so most mornings we went over the road to the Diagonal Mar shopping centre where there were plenty of reasonably priced places for breakfast and a good selection of shops. We did order room service a couple of times and the food was tasty, well presented and served by friendly staff. The main bar was more of a cafe, with no music and not much atmosphere, though the cocktails were good. On one of the upper floors you walked passed an open plan exercise area with a small amount of equipment, opposite to this was a row of jacuzzis that had great views of the city and mountains, you then reached the quite pleasant terrace area that has the potential to be very nice in the summer with an outdoor (unheated) pool and spectacular views of the city, mountains and sea. Will probably stay again as conveniently close to family's apartment, though it is a 10 minute taxi ride into the main centre (but you do have metro and bus options) plus it is more reasonably priced than other 4 star hotels nearby, a few tweaks and it would be very good.

The lobby could use some updated furnishing. The train station (L4) is around corner about 4 minute walk. Hotel located across street from Diagonal Mar Mall and next door to Blau Museum. When available you have a choice of room with city or ocean view. I opt for ocean view and it was beautiful unobstructed view since there are no other buildings behind the hotel. Can reach this hotel easily by train or bus from airport or city center.

Pros:
mini fridge with drinks (have to pay for it)
complimentary water and snacks daily
wifi available - just go ahead and click 24 hours the fee can be deducted at checkout
Marriott comforts
housekeeping have room cleaned by noon
two different tourist hop on hop off bus in front of hotel or across the street
pool on the roof
Roomy, clean rooms
walking distance to the beach

Cons:
no concierge lounge
no ironing board
hotel does not follow member procedures for gold or platinum Marriott members
business center computers are a headache especially with security block on most websites and printer does not work half of the time

Overall, it's a great place to stay!

Hotel was pleasant with an easy check in, room was ok and mini bar was free. Wi if in the room would have been preferable, had to go to the hotel lobby to use wifi. Breakfast was a bit busy on the mornings I was in a hurry with a bottleneck at the entrance and being forced to go to the ask of the restaurant. Ended up having to grab something to take with me as it took to long to queue. The hotel isn't in a good location or the main conference centre which was over 1 hour on 3 metros or 25 euros and a 25 min taxi journey. Great location for the beach and a shopping centre opposite though. Unfortunately we were there during a 3 night outdoor concert which kept me awake every night as it was happening right next to the hotel!
