“Very nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

Location is excellent - right next to the beach and close to the metro, and service was really good as well. There is a mall with plenty of good eating options right across the hotel.

The only cons (for which I took off 1 star) I have are a lack of coffee maker in the room + no free internet in the room. The latter is not much of a problem as there is a free and good wifi reception in the lobby.

The rooms are very modern'ish, nice pool though it seemed a little crowded.

Highly recommended..

Very modern hotel in it's look and feel in the most recently developed area of Barcelona, very close to the beach (5 min safe walk).

Upgraded (due to Marriott status) to a very nice junior suite on 22nd floor with incredible views. Very comfortable bed and nice to have separate sitting room. Luxurious bathroom with huge bath and double shower. Plenty of storage.

Only drawback to the room was no safe to store valuables.

Decent gym and spa facilities. Pool deck is nice but gets packed early on and therefore wasn't able to use it

Reception staff were pleasant and helpful but check in was a slow process.

Did not try restaurant due to high cost of breakfast (€22!!) and there are plenty of good local cafes in the area, as well as supermarkets etc.

Diagonal Mar shopping mall is across the road with plenty of restaurants etc., and the tram, metro and local buses are all very close (metro is particularly efficient). Always plenty of taxis at the hotel (c€10 to Las Ramblas).

2 different open top tour buses stop outside of the hotel - we used the "Official Tourist" bus which stops across the road and thought this to be good value.

Overall this is more of business hotel than a tourist hotel though for the 3 days we were there it was fine for a holiday

Room Tip: Higher floors have best views

If you are traveling to Barcelona during the summer months this is a good hotel for your stay. We had a standard double and it was a good room, ok for our visit. There's a outdoor swimming pool and close to the beach (5 min walk). If you do not like to eat breakfast at the hotel you can buy yoghurt etc at Al campo (grocery store in the mall next door, open 10 am to 10 pm monday-saturday). There is a small minibar where you can store some small things.
There's only free wifi in the lobby and I think also the bar but if you want it in your room it cost 6,5 euro/h or 12,5 euro/day. This is a bit negative.
Good air conditioning in the room.
If you are traveling to Barcelona other months I would pick a hotel in the city center. The metro takes about 10-15 min to the city so it's good.

I stayed three nights at this at this hotel in July; one before and two after a cruise. While it definitely has its benefits, it also has a host of negative which really dampen the experience.
The hotel is located in a Convenient area, only 10 – 15 minutes from downtown Barcelona, across the street from a large shopping center with lots of stores and restaurants, and also across the street from cafés, so they are plenty of options for dining.
The hotel is also about half a mile away from the beach which is a wonderful option. the best feature for me was The 13th floor terrace with magnificent views of both the city and sea. They also had three nice sized Indoor Jacuzzis in which you could sit and overlook the city and a small gym. The pool however was ice cold; I only saw one person during our entire stay. However, the view was spectacular and made up for the very chilly pool.

The negatives: when we checked in, the front desk associate was less than friendly! The young lady who waited on me was quite stone faced; not welcoming, warm or accommodating at all. She conducted business as if she were licking a stamp or cleaning gum from the bottom of her shoe.

The room itself was okay: Contemporary...very different. Our 11th floor room had a Magnificent view of the sea!
We were not told that we had to put the key in the socket for the lights come on, but after a few moments deducted that after we could Not turn them on.
Also, the room did not have a coffee maker, iron or clock and very limited television channels. There was however a small audio system in which we could play CDs; not very useful as one does not Typically bring CDs on vacation; a docking station would have been much better.
The Restaurant was expensive – €22 plus tax for breakfast! We didn't dare eat other meals there as we knew they would be too expensive.
Another good point is that the tour bus stop directly in front of the hotel, so you can just walk out the door and right on to the hop on hop off bus Which gives you a wonderful tour of the city. It is also close to the tram station.
Overall, this hotel is okay – good for one or two nights, but definitely not for a vacation.

I stayed at the AC Hotel alone for one night while travelling between cities. The location of the hotel is fantastic- very close to La Barceloneta beach, the metro station and the Diagonal Mar shopping centre which is full of restaurants, shops and a cinema. I chose a room with a city view and, as I was quite high up, the view was incredible. The spa area was beautiful and so was the rooftop swimming pool even though it was smaller than it seems in the photographs. Unfortunately, the service didn't live up to the rest of the hotel's high standards. The reception staff were quite cold and certainly not in a hurry to help. I was also surprised to be charged an additional 50 euros as a deposit (instead of having my credit card put on file in case of any charges) as I hadn't seen this information anywhere prior to my arrival. All in all, nice hotel but I expected more from the price tag.

Stayed for a week recently.

Pluses; Clean hotel, good, quiet location, 10mins walk from a nice beach which doesn't get too busy; good snacks/lunches; situated opposite a big shopping centre (diaganol mar) with places to eat, close to a few nice cafes, bus touristic right outside hotel. Nice pool and outdoor area/seating

Negatives; Rooms too small, a few rude staff, very few staff speak English. Breakfast was not great ; runny scrambled eggs, rubbish bacon, plenty of fruit, breads, cheese, ham and some pastries. Pool looked nice but a lot smaller than in picture; you are better off going to the beach.

Advice; shopping centre is good; avoid the steak restaurant on 3rd floor of the shopping centre; the food was awful; beach is nice with very reasonably priced rental loungers/umbrella. Bus touristica is good, you can see all the sights and get on and off where you like more or less.
