AC Hotel Barcelona Forum by Marriott
Ranked #221 of 517 Hotels in Barcelona
Reviewed October 23, 2012

My husband and I flew many hours to get to Barcelona. When we arrived we were very tired. The staff at the AC Hotel Barcelona Forum by Marriott provided us with accommodations that exceeded our request and expectations. The room was clean, comfortable and had amenities that were appreciated (e.g., the complimentary beverages in the refrigerator). And the view from our window was nice. Any request or question received a quick and helpful response. Free access to the computer in the business center and free wi fi in the lounge were added extras. Nearby was a large mall with many possibilities for dining and snacking. The metro stop was nearby so we never needed a taxi. We were very happy with our choice of hotel in Barcelona.

The AC was a great base for my family , we stayed for 4 nights in August before we went on a cruise . The breakfast was excellent with a great variety of hot and cold choices but try to get a deal with it included with you room as it is espenceive at €22 .
I had one dinner which was good quality but I was Hungary after it. it was also very pricy.
There was a large shopping mal directly across from the hote which had numerous places to eat like great pasta restaurants and a steak house and Starbucks and Mc Donald's ect.
A €12 taxi ride would get you into Las Ramblas also the metro was close to the hotel. I would be quite happy to return to the A C if I return to Barcelona .

I've stayed here before for a conference at the Forum, and the great rate I got at otel.com made it sensible to stay again. Mind, if you're wanting to use this as a base to visit Barcelona - be prepared for @20 min ride on the metro/tram or a taxi ride - you are a way out of town.

Still, its only about 5 mins walk from the nearest tram stop and metros - so pretty easy to get about (invest in a multi-journey ticket). Not too expensive (@30-40 euros in Oct 2011) if you wanted to get there straight from the airport by taxi.

I was on the sea side of the hotel this time. So a better view than the top of the Mall which is what you get on the other side. Room was again comfortable if on the small side, although a good sized desk and what seemed like a larger TV. STILL NO FREE WIFI. Disappointing to be honest - a major let down. You can pay, but for a hotel in a mariott chain, where you're focused on business customers - wifi should be freely available and reliable. You can work for free in the business centre - there are about 6 places to sit, printing is available: however I found the wifi connection unreliable during my visit. Disappointing.

Again, I found the staff excellent - friendly, efficient and accommodating. My wife and 12 week old daughter joined for 1 night. Cot was readily available, staff helpful.

No coffee/tea in the rooms, although we did have a free mini-bar, restocked daily with a beer and a selection of soft drinks. Hotel bar is pleasant enough, and not badly priced in comparison to other hotels - and there are a few around to choose from.

Food is excellent, I found breakfast satisfying. We didn't eat there for other meals - if the conference isn't providing food the shopping centre across the road has a wide selection of excellent bars and restaurants for all budgets/tastes to meet up and network/eat cheaper.

I didn't use the gym/pool again - too busy :( Pity - they look very good. Maybe next time I'll get a chance to have a go at the splendid looking runs outside - either along the coast or up the Diagonal.

So - ok for a business person - but needs to up its game in terms of wi-fi access. If you're coming to a conference/business nearby - splendid. If you wanted to see Barcelona.. something more central could be better but you may get a good deal (if there are no conferences on) which would make up for the travel - especially booking in advance through otel.com like I did.

The receptionist authorised our credit card upon arrival although our stay had been guaranteed by a credit card when the booking was made. They don't appear to trust their guests very much.

We were in the hotel as a part of our honeymoon. The honeymoon was announced to the hotel in advance. No-one cared. (The reception staff seemed nervous anyway.) Instead we got a rather small room and one blanket for two persons.

The hotel seems to like communicating with their guests by inserting paper sheets under room doors. We arrived at 2 am and shortly afterwards we were handed two pieces of paper under the door: one, telling us that there was a fire drill the next morning (meaning a very short time for us sleep!), and another one telling us that room cleaning can only happen until 3pm. Thus if you are a stressed-out businessman and need to have your piece and quiet until the evening, then prepare yourself to stay in an untidy room! And also, you will have to pay for internet in the room.

The hotel does have an imposing lobby and we did expect a lot from a Marriott-type accomodation, especially this close to the beach. In the end we were more disappointed and the sea view was not that special either. Bad value for money!

If you are used to Marriott service, showers, have somewhere to eat, and wireless functions this is not the hotel for you. If you staying here for the points, then this is OK. The service mediocre at best, wireless access... Good luck to get that to work... and then there is the shower... Hot water trickling out, so it take some time to get the shampoo out of your hair. There is one benefit... If are on a convention it's close to the Convention Centre.

The AC Hotel is near the beachfront, but at the far eastern part of it. Not much to see from the window as there is the Forum convention building and some sort of construction going on at the beach. The city view would have been better.

The room was adequate, albeit a bit cramped. Amenities included a double bed with 3 pillows, a small upholstered chair, a small table on wheels, a desk and chair, flat screen TV on another table, and an upholstered bench atop a chest of drawers. A mini-stereo setup was provided as well. A large lit closet with too few hangers contained a bathrobe and slippers. A free mini bar is replenished every day (not much in there however), but I would happily trade free wi-fi for this.

The bathroom contained a glass sink and countertop, toilet an bidet, and a tub and shower. Excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water, but a leaky glass shower panel let the floor get wet. The golfball-shaped hand soap was a bit strange. Towels were large and new, and there was a wall-mounted hair dryer. Extras like a comb, toothbrush, tissues and shoe polisher were in wrapped packages and stacked on a small wheeled table under the sink.

Other things to mention: the window does open and pivots around its middle (one end juts outside and the other into the room); the heating system never did take the chill out of the room; there are only 3 non-Spanish channels on the TV (2 english and one german); wi-fi costs 12 Euros per 24 hours but you are allowed 3 connected devices.

Breakfast will cost you 22 Euros for a buffet. At that price I would expect real eggs, not powdered. The selection was just OK. The seating area is large, but they only use half of it for breakfast. I tried the outdoor bar on the 13th floor, there is a great city view from there. The pool deck was being refinished so we were not allowed to go out to the pool area. The fitness center is also on the 13th floor and there are treadmills and bikes for use.

Room service was 23 Euros for a club sandwich and some fruit; it arrived within 30 minutes.

Front desk personnel are average - bored and uninterested. The lobby is cold and uninviting. Taxis are outside most of the time, but I found that going TO the hotel in a taxi was a bit difficult as none of the 3 taxi drivers I used seemed to have heard of the place (and my Spanish is not that bad).

Cost as a single person was 181.50 Euros per night (room and tax) booked through Booking.com. For this price I would expect a bit more vitality and extras from the hotel, and free internet access. Nothing exciting or unique about this place, therefore an "average" rating (there is no "meh" rating option). There are cooler places to stay in Barcelona, nearer to the action.

Room Tip: City view is more interesting; try to stay on a high floor.

This is a great hotel which is just out of main Barcelona but within walking distance along the seafront. Staff are very helpful and polite and the hotel itself is very clean and up too a high standard. Would highly recommend
