“Good clean Hotel”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

Rooms are obviously smaller by American standards but we have to come to expect the European size rooms. I found the staff to be very responsive and kind, particularly the bell hop from Pakistan, he gave tips on safety, hotel information, and also gave us tourist recommendation that turned out to be really nice. I don't expect bell hops to be so courteous. My favorite part was the water pressure in the shower! (Little things that make me happy). The room appointments are very thoughtful and properly placed I the well organized rooms. Another small thing that helped was the mi I shoe shine sponge helped after I had beat up my shoes the week before. The only thing was no ironing board in the room but that makes sense because of the size of the rooms. Overall, I would stay here again, it's at the end of the beach so it's alive minute walk to the beach which was great (lots of bikers and runners). The only down side is that it is not in the city center thus you have to take the subway and it's about a 15-20 minute ride into to town. We enjoyed the sea view from our room.

Room Tip: We stayed in 1815 which was nice and my friend stayed in 2004 so they had a nice city view. No other...

Stayed at the hotel for 2 nights in late august, check in staff were friendly but found most of the other staff not so, they seem and behave in a way that appears that they are not happy and don't want to be there (room service, staff around the pool). Got a great corner room, with 2 young kids was ideal, but was disappointed with the quality of the bed, not your Marriot quality you expect. Location is good as it is close to a mall and not a far walk to the beach, however, on one of the 2 days, we couldn't get a cab outside the hotel (was told a major football game was taking place). Quality of breakfast was also disappointing when you factor you have to pay for it, very limited choice.

Room Tip: Corner room(suite) I got was quite spacious, end of the corridor so quite. Higher floor (if not sca...

Considering the fact that this is a convention/business hotel, I have to say that the modern decoration and the friendly staff almost makes up for the not available free breakfast. Rooms are ok, they provide a decent quality and amount of toiletries. We stayed in a junior suite and it was perfect as my children were able to have their own space.
The fact that it is far from the city was a bit of disappointment. Metro station is within a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel - not so bad. Parking is a bit expensive.

We booked our holiday very last minute, we only went to Barcelona because it was the only sunny place we could afford to fly (what happened to all the last minute deals this year, I blame the Olympics). In regards to our hotel choice, that was the only hotel we could get a decent deal on that was 4 star. We've stayed in the Malaga AC before. This hotel is pretty much a bigger version of that, so much so it was giving my boyfriend a serious case of deja vu.

The Good
You can walk to the beach. Barcelona's beaches are a lot nicer than you'd imagine a city beach to be. The water is clear, and there are bars dotted along the the beach.
Metro is a 5 minute walk. Barcelona metro is actually really pleasant, and air conned.
The tram is also a few minutes away, definitely recommend the tram for an air conned journey that you can actually see the city from.
There is a mall opposite the hotel, if you like that sort of thing!
There are two tour bus companies that stop right outside.
Rooms are an okay size, and clean.
Breakfast is really nice.
Fridge with free soft drinks in the room (no tea and coffee though, which the boyfiend wasn't happy about).
Roof top pool and nice bar.
Hot tubs which look out over the city.

The bad
This hotel and the surrounding area have no character at all. It's like staying in the docklands in London.
No free wifi in the rooms, paid for wi fi is extortionate and unreliable.
You can't walk to many attractions, and there's no restaurants in the vicinity.
There is a 4 euro charge for room service.
No English language channels on the TV apart from BBC and CNN.
The room had twin beds even though I had paid for a double (and wrote no twin beds in big letters on the booking form). Their solution was to make up the twins into one bed. I was massive (the other half said it was like sleeping on different continents) and when we tried to sleep in the middle it was uncomfortable. Not very romantic!

So why did I give it 4 stars? The price was reasonable, and we were looking for a relaxing stress free break. That's what we got. I've stayed in a kooky apartment in the Gotic quarter before and it was lovely, but we were looking for a stay where we did as little as humanly possible. The access to the beach and the bus tours made this easy. Plus it is a nice hotel with courteous staff. It's definitely not the right place for someone who likes a more boutique experience, but great for business people or burnt out working couples wanting a short break. Just wish they'd sort out the wifi!

We are Marriott Rewards folks and love it because we get a lovely breakfast to fuel our young family of four before heading out and at happy hour we can give the children a snack to hold them over before dinner starts. This new acquisition of Marriott does not provide either of these amenities, however. This was sad news for us. Also, it is pretty far from the action so we spent alot of time on the metro.

That said, when we expressed our disappointment the staff immediately upgraded us to a fantastic room. The room was so lovely that we did not want to leave. We forced ourselves out and enjoyed much sangria, tapas and amazing sights. But when we were in our room for naps or regeneration time we were in love. Over half of the walls were all windows looking out to the sea. The bathtub was a jacuzzi big enough for the children and us to soak in together. The bed was comfy and the babies were provided stable, beautiful cribs that they adored.

There was a pool on the top floor which had a cool view of the city but it was not child friendly at all.

Barcelona has a nice childcare option that made this trip especially enjoyable. TLC, Tender Loving Cangaroos is a childcare agency that will arrange for a nanny to come to you and watch your children at specified times. They nanny must have been working permanently with the agency for at least a year and they are interviewed and screened. We had a lovely experience with Anita our nanny and were really thrilled to get a date night.

We ate so many good meals. One of the best tapas was at Cerveceria Catalana. 7 Portes was wonderful as well.

I would not reccomend going to the Spanish village but the Gaudi sights are fun to see and walking the Romblas is great.

Warning!!! Please wear a money belt. We were targeted by a threesome of middle-aged men for a pickpocket attempt. We had our strollers in the metro and on the way up an escalator they tried to get into my husbands camera bag. Thank goodness for money belts and a loud velcro enclosure that got his attention as he was balancing our 4 year old on the escalator.

Room Tip: If you are a rewards holder and accustomed to the breakfast and lounge, as for an upgrade. We were s...

Went to Barcelona for business, but got a pleasant surprise from this hotel by the convention center. It offers not just the basics, but for 110 Euros, free mini-bar, free breakfast buffet, nice view, great roof-top pool and healthclub with great view, and a 5-minute walk to the subway station. Ride to the main tourist attractions is only 20 minutes.

I would stay here again if I were to take a family vacation in Barcelona.

Room Tip: Higher floor, facing the Mediterranean Sea

The hotel looks impressive from the outside, has a business/conference feel to it, not much atmosphere when you walk in, not even piped music playing! Very modern decor. Rooms were clean with a free mini bar (very small bottles of soft drinks & 2 beers, replenished every day). Bathroom was modern & cleaned very well every day, only thing was the strange bathroom door, which was glass & didn't close or lock, on a swing hinge so opens in & out with a gap all the way round.. not alot of privacy! Strange design. The hotel is quite far out from the city & very quiet, train journey 20-25 mins. The beach is a short walk away which was nice. There is also a big shopping mall across the road. The pool on the 13th floor is ok but very small & very cold. The bar on the 1st floor was shut the whole time we were there, when we asked why, the staff said it is only open in the winter months!! So no bar area in the evenings. Continental Breakfast is served on the 4th floor with plenty to eat & well replenished. The hotel met our needs but I think we would stay nearer to the city next time. Too far out & very quiet, nothing to see or do in the evenings. Free WiFi in reception only. No safes in rooms but free to hire in reception. No tea/coffee making facilities in rooms.

Room Tip: Our room was on the 6th floor facing the road, could hear some traffic noise, but not too bad would...
