“Excellent Hotel”
Reviewed May 18, 2011

This hotel is in the Forum area of Barcelona, near to a metro station and 2 tram stations and opposite the Diagonal Mar shopping centre. The rooms are spotlessly clean and very smart. The whole hotel is very clean and the area is quiet with a good choice of restaurants both inside and outside of the shopping centre and there is a restaurant in the hotel, although the food was a little too "fancy" for my taste.
There is a fitness room, sauna, solarium and hot tubs on the 13th floor, and an outdoor swimming pool on the same floor. This is a hotel I would choose to stay in again.

Lived there for 8 nights. The hotel had a boring location even though it's close to the beach. There's a shopping center just across the road callad Diagonal mar which was ok...but personal I'm not a fan of big shopping centers.
I dont remember what floor our room was on ,but it was pretty high up with awonderfull seaweiw.but really noisy in the night time from some arrangements further down and other beach parties.
The rom was very nice and clean, but 2 of the days we had to point out to the staff that our room had not been cleaned, even though it was way out on the afternoon.
The pool area is small an overcrowded, and the breakfast was the poorest hotel breakfast I've ever had.
The lobby had free wifi but was also overcrowded from time to another

It's a new, modern and clean hotel, but way to expensive compared to what you get..

2 days business plus 2 days add-on holiday. Location initially seemed a problem (it's quite a long way from the city centre) but there is a metro stop 100 m from the hotel, and a taxi rank right in front of the hotel. There's a huge shopping m,all with hypermarket right in front of the hotel, and a restaurant/bar complex very close with a number of the chain Spanish food outlets - one or two of which surprised us by their excellence. It's almost on the beach, it has a great pool (could use heating!) and fitness centre. The rooms are beautiful, modern practical, and there's a free (limited) mini-bar, satellite TV and great views. The beds are about as comfortable as I have found anywhere in the world.

Staff are friendly and multi-lingual, they gave us an upgrade on arrival as we were staying longer than average, and also a free late check-out.

Negatives: Wifi is via a daily-purchase card, which for a business/conference hotel is not great, and the lighting system is bizarre. Breakfast is seriously overpriced and you don't have the option of just getting a coffee and a juice in the bar before 11.00 am, but there are several typical Spanish bars just 5 mins walk from the hotel.

i stayed here for almost a week while working in barcelona.
the hotel is a bit far away from the city - 40 minute walk to rambla or 10 minute and 10 euro in taxi. but as we often drove out of the city for locations it was ok not to deal with the barcelona traffic and it was very quiet at night.
it has a small gym with rather outdated work out machines, but everythign is very clean.
there is sauna, jacuzzi and steam baths, which i liked and a roof top pool and terrace which also was cool. the minus was that it was impossible to order coffee or food at the pool area- as the pool bar was not open....
the minibar is free (soft drinks and beer) and the gym /pool area also provides free water (nice).
the breakfast is very good with a big selection and fresh good foods. BUT whenever we ordered anything else from the hotel kitchen (room service or at the restaurant) it was really bad! we tried to eat in the city but because we had to have meetings in the hotel (we were a larger group) we often ate there in the late evenings and it was really not satisfying!
staff: some were really nice and some were less nice. no one was rude to me, and i experienced them beeing mostly very frindly/ helpful.
room: i had room 1506 (changed from room 10th floor as my room smelled of sewer there) and i had a nice view over barcelona and the room was well equipped and clean.
rooms have mini stereos so i regretted that i had forgotten my mini jack stick to my iphone.
wifi: WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! in the lobby it is free. but in the rooms they charge 12 euro per day and it is soooooooooooooo slow and bad! some days just opening FB or mail could take forever. forget internet banking or youtube!
next time i would stay elsewhere- with more stylish and luxurious feel, better food and closer to the city centre. it is not a cheap hotel and i am glad i didnt have to pay 200 euro plus per night as i only think it was maybe 100 euro worth.

Exceptionally disappointed by the booking direct to the hotel, along with a follow up email direct to the hotel reservation desk to confirm, to arrive at the hotel and go through the full check in process (copy of passport & credit card taken) to then be told the hotel is full and i had to move to their sister hotel! I asked what the cost difference was as paying 170 euro is a lot for a hotel of this quality (in comparison to the superior hilton next door). Appalling service by the staff on reception along with a front desk manager who never once apologised and stated it was a "system problem". Never stay at this hotel or chain again. Five days later I stayed at the hilton (next door) and the quality of the service, staff, food, room, etc was FAR superior to the AC Forum.

We've never been to Spain and only traveled overseas for work or to all inclusive resorts. So, heading to Europe starting from square one doing all the leg-work ourselves was a little intimidating. We checked out dozens of hotels and this one was one of top after narrowing down the price, needing a pool, fitness center, good location and decent star rating. It was way out of our price range when looking on their website and other travel sites, but we ended up finding an excellent rate on priceline and went with it. We weren't sure if the pics were going to be too good to be true, but upon arrival we were thrilled. The rooms, also tiny compared to US standards were pretty big for spanish standards. The bathroom was beautiful, very modern sleek design. Loved the oversized bathtub. Very comfy beds (yes still 2 small twins pushed together, but really comfortable). They have free mini fridge which gets refilled each day (no alcohol though, just waters, sodas, juices). The staff was all helpful and quick to respond to anything we needed.
The fitness center at first looks great, but is actually kinda sad. Poor quality treadmills, and bikes (2 of each) and 2 dinky weight machines. The hot tub rooms looks great with a beautiful view, but the water in the hot tubs was luke warm at best. I got goosebumps sitting in it after a few minutes and had to get out. The steam and sauna's are nice though and the pool and deck is gorgeous.
When we checked in we were given the option of a sea view or city view. Although normally we are definitely beachy people, we opted for the city view and we loved it. We were on the top floor so the view was really impressive.

Room Tip: check out prices on priceline for close to $100

We stayed at AC for 4 days and loved almost everything about it!! It's very close to being five star standard.

Beautiful and very comfortable 22-storey hotel, with breathtaking views from the rooms. Very modern, stylish and airy. Away from the centre, so not a noisy area at all. La Rambla is a taxi ride away (around €12) - not too bad we thought. c.€23 from the airport. c.€26 to Nou Camp - which is quite a bit for one way but worth the experience we had. Check in advance if there are any concerts/matches happening at Nou Camp because there are no stadium tours on these days.

Everything you need is near the hotel inc. tour bus stop (c.€23 per person) and taxi stand right outside, bus and train. There's a shopping mall across the street. The beach is only a 5 minute walk behind the hotel. Perfect location for a family.

[The kids attractions at Mount Tibidabo were closed on the day we went so the kids missed that. Maybe check at the hotel if they can check this for you in advance].

Breakfast was expensive (c.€22), but we think it was worth the money for a good buffet breakfast. Kids eat with free with a paying adult.

Really clean rooms, cleaned everyday. Free mini bar that is restocked everyday. Interconnecting Junior suite was great, TV for mum and dad's room and TV for kids' room. Perfect. Did I mention the views, stunning!!! Free internet in the lobby.

Downside was the AC did not work. The room was very hot some nights. Maybe check with them before you book - I can imagine how hot it could get in the summer.

The restaraunt was expensive and doesn't really cater for vegetarians, but there are plenty of restaraunts in the mall across the street and on La Rambla.

Some staff are not very friendly, but friendly enough to help when approached.

When we checked in at the hotel, we were asked to pay a refundable deposit of €50 per night. This was a bit of a shock because we were not expecting to have to pay extra and it had to come out of our spending money.

Upon refunding the money back onto our card, we were told it would take 7-10 days to credit back into our account. After making a fuss at checkout, the manager arranged a quick transfer back which should take 48 hrs to credit. It hasn't been 48hrs yet, so fingers crossed. :)

We would definitely go back next time we go to Barcelona - especially now we know where everything is and how much it costs.

Great holiday, can't wait to try other AC hotels in Italy and Portugal!
