We stayed at the Amister Hotel for 1 night following a cruise. We got off to a bad start with lashing rain on arrival in Barcelona and our taxi driver couldn’t find the hotel! When we eventually arrived we had to manoeuvre our 4 suitcases 4 steps down from the street into the reception area, there was a man and a lady behind reception who glanced up as we struggled but offered no help though the girl who was on reception later in the evening was far more friendly. The reception area is modern and functional though but it seemed kind of soulless, the staff speak good English and we checked in with no problems.
We were in room 702 which was fairly average and opened onto an atrium reaching from lobby to roof - quite noisy as all sounds carries up through the building – and we didn’t particularly like the grey decor and the bathroom door was warped possibly due to a water leak at some stage. The “view” from the room was a concrete wall opposite! It was so wet on the night we stayed that we didn’t want to go out but there was no bar or restaurant which was a pity – nowhere to go but to the room with a television that only had news in English. The area around the hotel looks a bit run down and it’s not in the heart of the tourist area although if you enjoy walking, you can get there in 25-30 minutes.
There was no sign of any staff when we arrived down next morning for breakfast on the 1st floor mezzanine. The toast machine was switched off but we put it back on and toasted our bread, the selection of food was limited. Finally a surly waitress appeared and without as much as a “good morning” demanded our room number.
We checked out and the hotel did kindly keep our luggage while we went for a last walk around before heading back to the airport and home. We will come back to Barcelona but not to the Amister Hotel.
