I would have described this more as a 3* hotel. The rooms are very diverse and I initially got a choice of miserable noisy airless rooms backing onto brick walls and air conditioning units with useless curtains and so insist on a street view when you book!.
The bathrooms were beautiful once but really now needed repair as there were various little things not working like a handle coming off and the air conditioning was either very noisy or didn't work very well (leave it on all day).
The place feels rather claustrophobic other than on the very small roof top bar with amazing views where the staff made the best Mojitos ever, but it tended to close too early.
The staff were very helpful, the breakfast (albeit in the windowless basement) was good but the restaurant (more a corridor) never seemed to be used.
The location was very convenient and close to transport but in a tourist trap which was a noisy smelly area, but a couple of streets behind was a much more upmarket area where I would rather stay in the future.
About Barcelona; Book your sightseeing on the internet and avoid the queues and don't get caught out by very well dressed and very young pick pockets!

Room Tip: Try and get a room overlooking the street and avoid the central atrium of brick walls and air conditioning units.

We spent several days at this centrally located hotel and really enjoyed ourselves. The breakfast option was the best we've seen anywhere in Europe, the rooms were modern and clean and well maintained, and the staff were super helpful. It was located less than one block from the Ramblas (think 4 lanes highway with the 2 inner lanes closed to vehicle traffic and open for pedestrians and eateries. The Ramblas is about a mile long leading to the harbor and an easy walk. You will love this hotel if you choose to stay there.

Currently sitting on the rooftop deck of our hotel enjoying a bottle of bubbly. This hotel is fantastic. Great location, one block off La Rambla. Room is on street side, but not too noisy. Received robes and slippers. Celebrated a birthday with breakfast delivered to our room and a birthday with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The only downside is the front desk is so busy, it can take a little while before they serve you.
Close to Metro, Cataluyna plaza, sightseeing, restaurants, grocery.
Would stay here again.

Room Tip: Street view rooms are close to elevators but overall were quiet.

We hadn't been to Barcelona before, so we chose the hotel based on it's location on a map, and reviews we'd read. The hotel was a good choice indeed. It's proximity to everything we wanted was spot on. The main feature in Barcelona is La Ramblas, and this was only a stroll from the hotel. There are more bars and eateries than you can imagine, as well as metro stations and bus stops. A feww hundred yards down the street is a travel shop where we booked a few excursions. (we got discount when we booked several trips in one hit).
The rooms are medium in size and have all the basics from a safe to a mini bar, and the cleanliness was spot on for us.
We had chosen bed and breakfast, and the breakfast was fine, with lots of choice. It was a buffet breakfast, so you can "stoke up" for a day out.
Realistically, the hotel is compact, which is cosy, but there is only one small elevator, which was bearable, but a pain when we were leaving and trying to get our luggage into the elevator, and other guests wanted to get in too.
On the down side, our room was on the first floor (2nd if you're from the US) and it was at the front of the hotel and had a balcony. However, in the morning there was a lot of noise from 06.00hours onwards as Barcelona goes to work. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel, and the queue was noisy and the buses even more so. So if you like to stay in bed a while, get a room at the back of the hotel. Yes it's nice to have a balcony to step out onto, but the buses were deafening at times.
One definite piece of advice, DON'T get a taxi from the airport. We had to because of a transport strike on the day we arrived, and it took 50 minutes and cost 35 Euros. We got the Aerobus from very near the hotel, and paid 11.60 Euros for the two of us, and the journey took 20 minutes. (The airport is only 7 miles from the hotel). We're going back to Barcelona next spring, and will be staying there again, especially for it's perfect location. One more thing to add about getting around Barcelona. The usual open top tour buses suck to be honest. They get around very slowly, especially because they are stopped at so many traffic lights, and when loading, so many people buy tickets on the bus, which takes forever at each stop. My advice would be to heck out all the tourist "must sees" on the map, and overlay that with a metro map. For example, we wanted to see the magnificent Cathedral Sagrada Familia. The tour bus took two hours to get aound to that stop, and while we were there we realised there was a metro station right along side. The metro got us back to the hotel in 15 minutes!, and a day ticket is much cheaper than the tour bus! so next time it's the Metro for us. No traffic lights or traffic jams down there!!

Room Tip: If you like to sleep in, or you're a light sleeper, ask for a room at the back of the hotel. (The rooms on the front have a balcony, which is a novelty, but only for a few minutes. You can't sit out on them or anything), and as high as possible (there are 8 floors in this hotel)
