Espai Kru isn't cheap but our meal was worth every penny. It would be great for a special occasion.
The menu is based on 'raw' food - focusing on fish - and every course is expertly flavoured and balanced.
We started with the best cava we had in Spain - just 5 euros a glass - and smoked anchovies with manchego & red peppers (you haaaave to get these!).
The shellfish (prawns, clams, oysters) were amazing too. Great value (between 3 and 10 euro per piece) - and every time you worried that the accompanying flavours might overwhelm the seafood flavours, you would be proved wrong!
The raw fish - salmon with a Japanese marinade, red mullet ceviche, tuna tartare - tasted amazing & most of them were available as half size portions. The tomato tartare was also a must have dish (though just ever so slightly too salty!).
For "mains" we turned to the cooked section - a lobster salad with mango & avocado was delicious, but at 28euros (to be expected for lobster, I suppose) I wouldn't have this again unless money was no object. The "grill your own" wagyu however was a bargain at 19euros - and was some of the most flavoursome meat I've ever eaten!
Desserts weren't an after-thought either...delicious hot puddings served with ice cream proved a perfect end to an otherwise fairly healthy meal! Service started slightly cold & difficult to get anyone's attention, but after a while our waitress became a lot more comfortable & even a bit "jokey", which was great!
Our meal with a tip, wine, cava & coffees came to 220euros - as I say, not exactly cheap, but we felt it was actually the best value meal we had of the trip as every mouthful was fantastic! If you're in Barcelona, treat yourselves & go! I'm sure we'll be back when we return to the city.
