Picked this hotel because of good experiences with Indigo in London (Tower Hill). It's only been open with the Indigo brand since the Spring of 2013 but I suspect it is a makeover of another hotel as here and there you could see some wear and tear that you wouldn't expect with a brand new hotel. We were upgraded to a room with a big terrace with sun loungers on the top floor which was nice. Pleasant bedroom design, excellent bed but working space a bit cramped. Idem for the bathroom. Liked the breakfast buffet. There is only a small pool but lots of lounging space on the huge marble decks around it. I shouldn't forget that the hotel is well located near Paseo de Gracia, Barcelona's 5th Ave. All in all not a bad place to be considering the more than decent price !

We stayed at the hotel on a precruise stay and had four rooms. On check-in the staff was disorganized and had no plan on how they are going to put us in rooms. Once they got their act together, we had some nice rooms witha modern feel. The rooms with the pull out couch were a little tight on space.

When we asked later for recommendation on where to eat, the staff had no idea on anything around the hotel which I found surprising. All they could do was give us a brochure they found on the desk.

On checkout the front desk staff was again disorganized and could not find our files for a couple of minutes. This made our driver have to wait and alsmost had to leave without us.

This hotel is central and very new so the rooms are clean designer cool. They have a nice - but small - pool if you dont want to trek to the beach and close to the shopping, sites and some excellent resturants. The staff are polite and efficient although not a enthusiastic and helpful as we had experienced in other Spanish hotels. For the price and location, I would definitely book it again.

Hotel Indigo is a beautifully decorated, chic and relaxed hotel with spacious and elegant rooms. We found the cleaning service to be very efficient and welcoming. However, this atmosphere was marred by the coldness of the staff. When we arrived at the hotel we were barely greeted. There were no words of welcome. We were new to hotels like this and forgot to bring our passports so were given a very unfriendly telling-off by the manager as if we were naughty children. I appreciate that hotels have this policy but the way we were treated regarding this matter was really over the top. They acted as if we wouldn't be allowed to stay for a very awkward 10 minutes as they asked us if we could get my grandparents to fax copies from Pladja D'Aro.
After all that nonsense we were allowed in... to an HOUR wait for our room. I don't know whether this was 'punishment' (as I have experienced this in the service industry from frustrated staff and managers), or just plain laziness on their part. We arrived at about 3 which is hours after check-out at 11 so why did it take them four hours to clean a room? One of the staff Oliver apologised quickly insincerely. Either they didn't care or didn't want to acknowledge that they had made a mistake. We ordered cocktails as we waited which took half an hour. Very disappointing: the cosmo was full of sugar and tasted like a chupa chup on acid. However, the manhattan was very nice.
On occasions we were greeted by the staff as we came and went to and from the hotel. Most of the time we were ignored. I have been working in the service industry for 3 years now and find this kind of behaviour unwarranted and boring. When people do this they create an awkward experience. This came to a head as were were checking out. The woman on the reception desk Valshali seemed more robot than human. In fact all of the staff of reception did. They were all quite young and came across as very pretentious. We were not asked how our stay had been or thanked for our custom. Very boring cliquey style. I shouldn't have to go out of my way to make a situation un-arkward. Apart from the beautiful interior and great squishy bed there was nothing of interest here.

Dear Zyomi,

First of all I would like to excuse in the name of the whole front desk team for not having reached your service expectations and not appearing down to hearth. Most reviews tell about how friendly our staff is! This time we might have made something wrong, please accept our most sicere apologies.
About your akward checking in experience let me tell you that in Spain "Hotels have a legal duty to register the passport details of tourists on check-in" (copied from the gov.uk link below) as we informed you. Checinkg In a guest unproperly (without valid national ID for UE citizens or passport for any other nationality) can lead into big trouble to the hotel. Please find below a couple of links that can be interesting to anyone travelling within Spain regarding ID laws.

Our houskeeping team works from 08.30 am to 17.00 to clean all 77 rooms and always try to have 100% of departures ready ASAP, but unfortunately it does not happen always. There are, late check outs, early check ins, maintenance problems, etc... We also have quite a few different room types, so we might have rooms ready but not the room type booked by the guest arriving before others. We wish we knew what time everyone is arriving!! Anyway what I can assure you is that no one was punishing you by any reason.

Again thank you for your comments that will help all of us improving.

Kind regards,

David Chacón

We arrived in Barcelona after travelling from Marseilles, the hotel was difficult to locate being on the Gran Via which is one way, the hotel being located on the slip road which is one way in the opposite direction! But all's well that ends well, the hotel being perfect, the staff could not have been more helpful, and the rooms stunning ours having a Gaudi mural on the wall, we were supplied maps and recommendations to visit and have Tapa's etc. we will definitely be going again!!

Room Tip: We found the second floor ideal

Me and my partner stayed here for a weekend break 25-28 July. Easy to find for the Barcelona newbie (get off at Placa de Catalunya, go north for five minutes, turn right), perfectly located for Las Ramblas, Ramblas de Mar, the Gaudi House and two minutes walk from passeig de gracia metro stop. The hotel staff were friendly and approachable; we went for a slightly bigger room with a city view which was absolutely perfect and given the 35 degree heat, the air-con was blissful. Very well appointed, pleasant little swimming pool and extremely comfy beds; we absolutely couldn't fault it and would stay here again like a shot. Highly recommended!

There are so many hotels in Barcelona that it was hard to choose. We ended at this one because my husband is a priority club member and it has a pool which i needed to keep our 3 year old entertained!
All was good. We had a standard room which would be fine for 2 but in our case the sofa became a bed so it was a little cramped. However we managed as we weren't in the room much. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel as our very good advance purchase price didn't include this and we were happy to take advantage of the nearby cafes. We managed by having some cereal and milk in the room for our daughter and we took advantage of the nespresso coffee provided.
The pool was a great relief when we returned from having spent many hours walking the city. It was small but very pleasant and I nice way to meet other guests and get helpful information. The location was great for easy walk to almost any where you wanted to go.
The staff were always helpful and friendly. They will probably recommend you eat at Ciudad Condal(make sure you do-it was great tapas. we went back 3 times but it gets very busy so if you go in peak times you will have to wait); I can also recommend within short walking distance Torres Vinoteca, Cornelia & Co(a great find) and for a cheaper meal El Raco; and in the Born district Il Gambereto; also recommend a short train trip to visit Sitges, to either browse the town or spend some time on the beach. Enjoy!!
