“Lovely spanish cuisine”
Reviewed August 15, 2014

We booked a table for 2 people for the opening time (8.30pm). The table we received was very spacious as it was set up for 4, which was enjoyable. The complementary olives were delicious, as was the bread appetizer with anchovies on top. For main course we both ordered the paella mixta (a mixture of seafood and meat). It contained lots of very nice seafood, however, there wasn't much meat. The meat that was in the paella was rabbit and was still attached to the bone, so we ended up with around 2 mouthfuls each. However, it was still very enjoyable and we both liked the selection of seafood. We ordered cheesecake, and creme catalan for desserts. The cheesecake was not the typical cheesecake I am used to, it was more of a moose on a sponge base, rather than a biscuit base. My boyfriend said that the creme catalan was nice, but neither dessert were anything majorly exciting to write home about. On the other hand, the main course was delicious and so were the TWO jugs of sangria that we got through, so it didn't spoil our experience at all. I would highly recommend the sangria!

“Best Seafood in Barcelona? Excellent Experience”
Reviewed August 2, 2014

After falling into an awful tourist trap earlier the same day, what a refreshing change to get such an amazing dining experience at Koxera. We went with seafood all the way and didn't regret it.

I had octopus to start which was unbelievably tender and a big portion. highly recommended. the other half had mussels in the most gorgeous garlic sauce.

mains, I had grilled mix seafood that consisted of hake, monkfish, squid, mussels and king prawns. all were excellent and cooked to perfection. other half had seafood paella which was outstanding.

desserts I had the 'catalan cream' which was accurately described by the waiter as being similar to a crème brulee. other half had cheesecake which was very light (in a good way).

drinks wise we shared 2 jugs on sangria and water which were excellent but not very strong (we couldn't tell we'd had a drink when we walked out of the restaurant). there were also a few welcome freebees along the way; before we started we got some tomato topped bread with the most amazing fresh anchovy on top and some lovely little pralines and chocolate topped almonds before we got the bill.

the service overall was very good although a little slow at times as there were only 3 people waiting on a busy restaurant. all 3 were excellent, particularly the lady that didn't speak English but we completely understood each other. the other 2 gents spoke very good English and were equally as efficient. their English were good enough to feel confident discussing menu dishes with them.

3 courses each with 2 jugs of sangria came to 90 euros but I must stress we had the most expensive things on the menu. you could easily do this with a 60 euro bill for 2.

excellent food, experience, value and easily the best meal we've had out of 10 meals in Barcelona so far. don't miss this one and make sure you go for the sea food.

“Must do in Barcelona”
Reviewed July 30, 2014

As we all know trip high trip advisor rating does not always guaranties good experience and I’ve seen it quite a few times. This time, however, the experience was way beyond the expectations.
After brief shopping in L’illa shopping center, we searched in trip advisor for a decent place nearby to have a dinner. The restaurant was on 80th place out of almost 4000 what was pretty high though I didn’t expect anything outstanding. To my surprise, everything from starters to wine was extremely delicious. The waiter (he seemed to be the owner of the place as well) was very kind and knowledgeable about the dishes he served and the cooking process. We asked for mussels in marinara for starter and it was awesome. Make sure to ask for enough bread for mussels, as the sauce is even more tasteful than musses themselves. As a main course, we got black noodles with langouste what was very fresh and juicy.
We have been in quite a few restaurants in all around the globe; however, I would add that one to my favorite list, which is not long at all. Strongly recommended!

“Unfortunate choice”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

In a city full of good food, Koxkera was certainly disappointing. The English menu isn't translated properly, leading to confusion when one of the dishes we were served wasn't what it was supposed to be. My wife's steak was terribly dry and lacked flavor; we're also fairly convinced it was pork, despite the owner's assurance that it was dry-aged beef. Everything else was mediocre.

We are sorry, it clearly seems that we didn't make our job as we usually do.

For sure we not cooked the steak according to your taste, but i can guarantee you that we don't lie to anyone, simply it's not our style.

We have translated the menus ourselves (some parts with google translator :)), so, yes, probably the translation isn't perfect. That's why we always try to do our best to explain to our customers the dishes (with our English :))

If you have the opportunity, and want, to visit us again we are pretty sure we would not disappoint you.

“Great place!”
Reviewed July 22, 2014 via mobile

A little gem outise the center, nice relaxed atmosphere, the service is impeccable. We had very nice paellia and arroz negro, both great, and a marvellous cheesecake at the end. If you are done with the touristic places this restaurant is worth a visit!
