“Huge room, spectacular view but location... eh”
Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

While it was vary convenient to the train station, it was far from most other attractions we were interested in. We had a suite which was basically an apartment with full living room, bedroom and 1.5 bath. Decor was circa 1980s but easily ignored when I recall the spectacular view we had being on the 17th floor with huge picture windows in the room. We only went to the restaurant for breakfast and the selection was typical to other hotels we stayed in while in various cities in Spain.

Excellent hotel with spacious twin room, bathroom & bidet, huge corner windows overlooking a park and full range of room facilities for the guest. Dinner and breakfast service was to a very high standard. Easy walking distance to the bullfight arena, now a huge shopping centre with an escalator to the top to view sights of the Palace Museum and the square with fountains and statues. Although not in the heart of the city, the taxi fare to Las Ramblas was only seven euros. It was the bench mark hotel for the rest of our tour.

I booked this hotel as a surprise trip for my husbands 40th birthday, on finding this out, the hotel upgraded our room, and gave us a bottle of Cava in the room with a printed card saying Happy Birthday and a little apple slice with a candle in it!!
There were robes and slippers in the room, the bathroom was big, with a walk in powerful shower, a bath, bidet and toilet and his and her wash basins.
We were on floor 16, and had fantastic views over the city!
The Visual restaurant on 22 floor was great, fab views, and delicious food.
Bed was comfy, pillows great.
Spa was good, and quiet so peaceful and relaxing.
Reception staff couldn't have been more helpful and the location was good. Just opposite the main station and so handy for the metro.

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up in hotel.

We recently went to Barcelona for our wedding anniversary and chose this hotel due to its reviews here and location. The hotel is situated between the airport (El Prat) and just outside the main city (10 mins max by Metro). It's ideally located for train links to the airport (Barcelona Sants train station) and the Metro access to the city is a very short walk just across the road. We found the hotel staff to be extremely welcoming and helpful with advice on what to do an where to go. They also recommended a great restaurant on the marina for us called Agua. Checkout the reviews on Agua for more. The best tip the hotel staff gave us was to get a T10 metro ticket which last 30 days and allows you 10 journeys on the Metro anywhere in the city. It cost around 10 Euro a person and well worth it. You can also use the same ticket to get to and from the airport. Saving on taxi fees. The hotel itself looked slightly dated on first appearance from the outside but we also noticed so did the other hotels in the immediate area. Inside was clean and as you would expect.

The room: As it was our anniversary I opted to go the extra mile and get a suit. It was on the 20th floor (room 2002) with fantastic views of the city and marina. It was semi-panoramic, great to watch the sun rise or set over the city. The room itself was spacious and the beds great. His and hers sinks, iron, ironing board, hair drier, complenrary water, IPod docking station and sound system. Great for putting some music on while getting ready to venture out. The room type also included free use of the spar however we didn't get chance in our busy short stay so can't comment.

One negative is the fact the hotels pool is located on the roof top of the sister hotel (Expo) next door. Not great for a 4 star I thought but anywho.

The Visual restaurant in the hotel is located on the top floor with yet more great views of the cityscape. The food was excellent and so was the service although it was quite late when we ventured up to eat with a handful of guests.

Pros: value for money, good service, convieniant public transport links to the city and airport, great views and food. Safe neighbourhood.

Cons: Not ideal for someone that wants to be in the heart of the action and just walk out onto Las Ramblas. Hotel is slightly dated in comparison to its rivals closer to the city. Bathroom was not as clean as we would have liked but still sanatary.

My partner and I recently had a 4 nights stay at the Gran Hotel and it was pleasant but nothing special. If you want to visit some of the tourist hot spots on your stay the hotels location is good, it is just over the road from the main train station so has good metro links and is easy to get to from the airport. At night time its location is frustrating as its 7/8 stops to the main hub of eating places.
The beds are comfortable, the towels are clean and the shower was hot and powerful, but the rooms are in need of a touch up; old wardrobes, ironing board, chairs, television etc and we had to pay an extra €13 per night to get these amenities. When they ask if you would like to upgrade for a higher floor to see the sea take this with a pinch of salt, the view out towards fira Barcelona and the font magica is good, but the sea in the distance isn't what I would class as a 'sea view' especially through the dirty windows. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the food, but we did look at the bar on the ground floor which seems empty all the time with no atmosphere.
Overall we enjoyed our stay here, but would try to stay closer to Casa Batllo next time.

When I say excellent, it´s not just because the location (in front of the main station). Much more than this. I was in Honey moon and told this fact to the staff in my check in. They offered me a grat room for a real good price and gave us a champagne bottle with a cute congratulations card (written in my language- portuguese). I really do reccomend Torre Catalunya!

The hotel is very comfort and nice. the staff was helpful. Despite the fact that the hotel is not in the center of Barcelona, it is very close to a metro central station that can bring you any place you want. The hotel area is not crowded or noisy and the view from the upper floors is beautiful. there is a business center that provides a helpful service to access the internet and use the printer. There are some nice restaurants around the hotel and every thing else that you need.

Room Tip: The view from the upper floors is beautiful.
