“Goog hotel, bad location”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2012

I read the great reviews about the hotel, and I had big expectations.
I was so disappointed when me and my husband got there (it was our honey-moon) and were told we are no where near the center of Barcelona. But it's not just that, the area the hotel located is so not pretty or romantic.
Not all was bad, overall it's a good hotel, and the staff is really nice. But we expected for more, that's all.

3 nights. Gave free upgrade and location is very good due to excellent connectivity to airport and city centre. Room very clean and service good. On arrival receptionist gave details information about attractions, transport system and hotel surroundings.

We chose this hotel as we were leaving to Valencia after three days in Barcelona and this hotel was right across the train station. It also has the metro within the same station, Estacio Sants, which was well connected and made it easy to get around town.

The hotel did not have much going for it. Upon checking in, we were offered various upgrades (better rooms, free wifi, spa access, breakfast etc), it made us feel that the room we had bookd was very inadequate. We stuck to our standard room and found the floor to be dusty and the room to be old and tired looking. We could feel the springs through the mattress and the air con was blowing directly at the head of the bed (which translated to us feeling a breeze on our face most of the time) which did not allow for a good night's sleep. They did not provide free wifi anywhere in the hotel but instead offered it at a charge of €10 per day. After saying we did not want to pay for wifi, we were told at the end of checking in that each room would be given 30m free wifi for each stay. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The toilet was very spacious with two sinks and a mirror that did not fog up in the middle after a hot shower.

The hotel had a lovely romantic restaurant/bar upstairs with panoramic views of the city. It was filled with couples and we even witnessed a proposal. We were told by the waitress that many men have proposed at that restaurant. We had a 3 course set meal and a glass of coke each which came up to €63.50.

Check out is at noon but they kindly extended ours to 1pm after we asked. They will store your luggage for you if you need them to. There are no supermarkets within walking distance that we saw, very few shops/cafes, one fast food outlet (pans & company) and a pretty good restaurant 5 minutes away (I can't remember the name, think it is Marcelo, ask the reception for recommendations). Apart from it being next to the train station, there is not much else going for it.

We stayed at the hotel the night before a 12 day cruise. We had never been to Barcelona before and wanted to see as much as possible in a short period of time. We chose the hotel because it was directly across the street from the Sants train station, so we took a quick and easy ride from the airport to the train station. We were able to check in a bit early and our room was fantastic. We paid a bit more to get a "family room" and it was two bedroom suites and a living room, very nicely furnished with awesome views of the city. We knew we whould be getting off the ship at the end of our cruise in the morning, and not taking a flight until the late afternoon, so I arranged to come back to the hotel and check our luggage for the day. They graciously accommodated us. The bellman was very friendly and knowledgeable. I think his name was Franco. He remembered us when we returned from our cruise, and I gave him a tip for taking our luggage for us. When I tried to give him a tip when we picked up our luggage, he refused it! All the staff was professional, pleasant, and eager to make our expereince a good one.

Room Tip: Ask for a room higher in the hotel. It is worth a little extra money for the view and to minimize n...

The only thing going for this hotel is the proximity to the train station. Otherwise it is mediocre in every respect. The rooms were tired and each day the maid forgot to leave something-- a bath at one day, a glass the next. There are few restaurents nearby. All could have been forgiven if the hotel had been accommodating with wifi. It was unavailable, even in the public areas without a fee of ten euros per day. Consequently, we did not eat their 12 euro breakfast or drink anything in the bar, because we could round the corner, get free wifi and eat and drink much less expensively. It's just plain bad business and an attempt to rip off hotel patrons with excessive incremental charges. In a city which prides itself in being wired there are much better options.

I have stayed at this hotels many times per year for the last decade. The location is convenient and well connected with public transport. The rooms are spacious, with good beds and fabulous city views. The hotel facilities are good, the breakfast is good and the restaurant is excellent. Some of the decor is starting to look a bit tired, and the front desk process is slow, but overall it is still very good value.

Room Tip: The higher the room, the better the view.

We chose this hotel after reading the reviews on trip advisor and we were not disappointed. When we arrived off the train ,the hotel was just there and we got attended to straight away. The receptionist told us we were on the 3rd floor but could upgrade to the 14th for 12 euros a night which we accepted also we could have breakfast for 12 euros each which again we accepted as we read good reviews of the breakfast.
Our room was good with a great view of north barcelona and the busy station below. We ate locally around the corner and down the road about 200 metres at a cheap wee cafe and the food was good. On each morning we had a window seat in the restaurant with stunning views and although the buffet was good it was not fantastic as described in other reviews but it set us up for the day and probably just about worth the 12 euros.
We had no problems during our stay and no noise from inside and outside (unlike a recent reviewer).
My only gripe was that on checkout, there was only 1 receptionist checking out so we had a wait and they added 10% tax on our upgrades, very naughty.

Room Tip: request a high room
