Having read earlier reviews of this hotel I had some doubts about it. Here is my version. The entrance is quite anynomous and so is the reception. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the checking-in-procedure went smoothly. There are two separate buildings, 1 and 2, where the reception is in the groundfloor of building 1 and the building two is a short walk across the car parking. My room was 1401 ( building 1 and floor 4). It was very modern with doublebed, tv and a large bathroom with shower. Clean and fresh. Although my room was towards the street it wasn't that noisy, only when sirens from police vehicles were passing by. Breakfast was avarege, not so much to choose from but ok.
I will absolutely recommend this hotel for any of my friends and I would consider it again next year.
I have hard to believe some other reviews: either the have "remaked" the rooms since then or I got one new...

We stayed at the hotel auto hogar for 2 nights at the beginning of January. This trip was booked for as a surprise Christmas present from my boyfriend. After reading the reviews on here I was very uneasy about what was instore for our stay. First impressions when arriving at the hotel were not good, the hotel is under full refurbishment, there was no sign for the hotel it just looked like a building site, scaffolding covered the front and the place was covered in dust inside even the staffs uniform. I had emailed before hand to ask for a refurbished room and enquired about a late check out however the guy checking us in didn't have a clue what I was talking about (I never did get a reply to my email) he told us late check out would be €30 extra which we weren't willing to pay so declined. He then showed us out of the hotel and down the street to the back of the hotel (the refurbished part) we stayed in room 2233. The room had been fully refurbished and was lovely and clean. Very nice ensuite bathroom (massive shower) our room had 2 single beds pushed together, unlike in other hotels we have stayed at these were made up as 2 single beds and not one bed. Breakfast was an experience in itself, the first morning we went to the main hotel and was shown upstairs where there was a few table and breakfast bits and a whole lot more building work, to be honest the state of the room was enough to put us off eating there so we promptly left not to return the second morning. Breakfast consisted of cereals, cold meats and packaged pastries which were stale. Our room was adequate for time we spent in it although did smell like sewage but to be honest most of Barcelona smelt the same. Barcelona is a beautiful city to visit full of things to do and see. Once building work is completed this hotel would be fine to stay in as the location is a short walk from La Rambla and Catalunya but if you are looking for the personal touch and full hotel experience then this is not the hotel for you.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room at the back on the hotel.

We were told by the desk manager to put our luggage in the luggage room and come back in two hours because the room was not ready. I asked if the "locked" luggage room was safe and I was told it was. When we returned our backpack was opened and our computer, camera, cell phone check book, and even a deck of cards was stolen. When the management was confronted they said it was not there problem and it was our fault for putting the luggage in the room in the first place. We were told to file a police report and the police would look at the surveillance tapes.
After taking over two hours to make the report I came back and asked to look at the tapes. They said that actually there were none because there were no cameras even though there was a sign saying there was one. This is not an honest or reputable place to stay!

Stayed here for 3 nights, last weekend in november. When we arrived they were having work done, scaffolding all on the outside of the building, so they stuck us at the back of the hotel in a room that had been fully refurbished. Modern walk in shower with large head and modern fittings. Big King size bed and very nicely decorated and very clean. Even toiletries such as toothpaste and brushes provided. Less than 2 minute walk to the harbour or les rambles and the street its in their are about 6 theatres and lots of nice little cafes and bistros. Breakfast basic, but yogurts, cereal, fruit, pastries, cheeses and cold meats. adequate and we only paid about £22 each per night. Was a bit cold at night time couldnt get the aircon to turn onto heat, but extra blanket on the bed worked!

Stayed 9th to 11th Nov, booked through On The Beach, hotel cost £106 for 2 nights. Was a little apprehensive after reading some reviews, when we got there, there was scaffolding up outside, indicating a refurb. We were given rooms in Hotel 2, which is down a corridor and through a tiny underground car park. Once in hotel 2, everything was brand new, the staircase, lifts and rooms were all brand new, and the rooms were lovely. Flat screen tv, new beds and bedding, wooden floors, new bathroom with walk in shower, great wardrobe, hangers, toiletries in bathroom, hairdryer etc. it was very clean. Window looked out onto a side street, so view was ok, even got a small balcony. Staff at reception very helpful and friendly. Breakfast adequate but nothing to write home about. Dont book taxi back to airport through reception, we paid €24 on way from airport to hotel, but it was €40 going back. Location very convenient for las rambles, fountains, port area and theres a metro station just outside the hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

Me and my friend booked this hotel back in mid June for 5 nights. Cost us about £30 each night per person. Saw some previous reviews about this one being out of nick, terrible service etc etc. This hotel turned out to be one of the best I've stayed at, been at a lot of hotels previously. Very good wifi use in the lobby (just have to ask the staff at reception for the code), located in a very central position on a busy main road but you can't hear any noises once inside the hotel. Very clean, modern rooms with a small balcony but very nice large showers, daily cleaned by the staff. Beds are comfortable and a spacious room. Only disappointing thing was the air conditioning, when going to full speed wasn't powerful at all. Located near Las Ramblas, 5-10 min walk from the beach, 1 min walk to the metro underground. Service was helpful majority of the time even didn't mind us coming in at 4-5am in the morning talking loudly! Very surprised at previous reviews of this place, exceeded expectations and a great place to spend your money and holiday! If they only had a swimming pool and improved air con it would be perfect..
