Stayed here for a few nights to explore Barcelona before moving along the coast for a few days of rollercoasters at PortAventura. Really good location with many major tourist sights within walking distance and a metro station just around the corner; the Eixample area is clean, orderly and safe but the crowds and atmosphere of the Gothic and the nightlife of El Born are all within reach.
We'd booked a room described as "Economy without view" for a good rate. Upon arrival we were allocated a family room which was huge, with very high ceilings, four beds and plenty of storage space. It looked out onto a wall and consequently was a bit dark but that didn't matter to us - on the plus side it meant no noise at night which combined with the comfortable beds ensured a good night's sleep. The room also had a desk, TV, mini bar and tea and coffee facilities plus a couple of chairs for relaxing (one of which had ripped upholstery where it had been rubbing on the wall and really could have done with repair or replacement, but otherwise the room was well maintained and very clean). Air conditioning was exceptional - perhaps the quietest and most effective I have every experience in a hotel room.
Bathroom had two sinks, a heated mirror and a separate toilet. The shower was powerful with plenty of hot water but the bracket was only half way up the wall which meant you had to hold it to have a shower. I see no reason for this as there was a full shower screen? Also could have done with more towel rails or hooks.
Our rate included breakfast and this is where the hotel really excelled! As this is a small hotel don't go expecting a vast selection of hot and cold food. Instead the hotel has focused on quality and freshness. Friendly staff were constantly replenishing very good bread, pastries, ham, cheese, boiled eggs etc plus freshly cut fruit. There was also cereal and yogurts available, plus real fruit juice and good coffee. (Complimentary tea and coffee also available through the afternoon and evening).
Reception staff were friendly and welcoming.
