“We loved it”
Reviewed February 20, 2007

We loved the hotel and enjoyed our stay very much. The staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The room was very nice and spotless. The buffet breakfast was very impressive and all the staff there were very nice. We ate in the restaurant one night and the food was first class, the only fault was that the restaurant was very quiet but again the staff were lovely.
We loved the locaton as it was only a short walk to the centre. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Catalonia Berna to our friends

The hotel is nice but the bed's are very uncomfortable and the area is very noisy.
The staff are not very helpful also, do not get them to book a cab for you as the driver we had tried to rip us off by saying he had been waiting for 15 minutes. When we approached the staff to complain they did nothing to help so we had to put up with the abusive driver!
I will definitely not recommend staying here, there are plenty of other hotels in Barcelona with more helpful staff!

My wife and I have just returned to the U.K. from a four day break at the Catalonia Berna. This hotel is all you could ask for in a short break in Barcelona. The hotel was immaculately clean. Our towels were changed twice daily in our room. The room had a nice FIRM bed which suited us fine as I have a slight back problem. We were on a B&B basis and the breakfast was excellant , plenty choice, although they seemed to be training new Fillipino staff for the restuarent and they were a bit slow. We had an evening meal in the hotel one night and it was the best we had during our short stay. (A well done steak in Barcelona has blood dripping as soon as you put your knife in). The hotel is quite central, just off Passaige de Gracia and we walked to the main square, Placa de Catalunya in a few minutes. All in we enjoyed our stay and would definately go back to this hotel if we were reurning to Barcelona.

  • Liked — price paid for trip (£402 all in for couple B&B, 4 nights) .Cleanliness, bed and toilet in room excellent
  • Disliked — room hot sometimes, not sure if air con switched on in winter.

Just returned from a three day break to Barcelona staying at the Catalonia Bernia Hotel. Looks old and historical from the outside with a modern interia. The hotel was within a few minutes walk of the centre e.g. Las Ramblas and we were delighted with the service and hospitality we received. Everywhere in the hotel was beautiful and clean. The rooms were of a good 4* standard and the breakfasts were fantastic! There were fresh, white towels each day and bathrooms were super clean. We certainly were pleased with our stay and if ever we return to the city would be happy to stay there again. P.S. The staff were friendly and helpful too, although one young receptionist did forget to order us a taxi and the one we picked up outside the hotel began taking us to the wrong station making it a more expensive and nail biting journey as we nearly missed our connecting transport. However we feel partly to blame for not speaking Spanish! This was the only minor fault of the entire weekend.
Booking 2 day tickets on the Touristica bus certainly let us make the most of the city and we would recommend this if you want to make the most of your stay without walking your legs off.
This also allows you to go out for lunch or tapas outside the city centre where good three course lunches can be eaten with wine for 10 euros. These are typically Spanish restaurants where you get a limited choice but excellent quality and value.

I stayed at the Catalonia Berna between Christmas and New Year 2005. I had never been to Barcelona before and was looking for a romantic trip to the city with my boyfriend. The Catalonia Berna is in a good location for exploring the city, and we walked everywhere. Breakfast was the usual continental selection, and the restaurant was clean with helpful staff. Our only problem was getting something to eat at night. We never had dinner in the restaurant as it was always closed when we went downstairs (probably because of the time of year), and you must walk to find other restaurants!

The room was nice and looked brand new with a lovely marble bathroom. On our first night, water began pouring into our bathroom from upstairs, but the staff dealt with it quickly and we were moved to another room. We didn't have any English T.V. which we missed when we weren't out and about.

Overall, it was a great introduction to Barcelona. I loved the city and the hotel but would probably stay closer to the main shops etc. if I was to return.
