“Pleasant surprise”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

I did not go to the beach the first time I was in Barcelona and this time I went just a few days before leaving. My mistake. Contrary to what I had read, it was enjoyable. Something to be said about being able to walk on a beach in February . . . lots of interesting characters hanging about . . beach bunnies???

“Lovely beach for walking or basking”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

Being so close to the centre of Barcelona it is easy to include a visit to the beach plus some time relaxing as part of any visit to the city. As other reviewers have said, it is very pleasant to walk along the whole stretch, with a variety of beaches along the way and a fascinatingly different set of buildings and amenities facing the beach. We took a Line 2 Metro to El Maresme, walked a short distance through the suburbs to the beach, and then walked back to Barcelona.

Because the beach is artificial, and depending on whether the tide is in or out, watch out if you swim because parts can be quite rocky (or rubble) where the sand has been washed away from the underlying base. A good tip is to swim wearing Crocs or a similar beach sandal - that was the swimming is fun, but without footwear (in places) it can be uncomfortable.

“Very nice beach”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

Nice, wide and very long beach, where everyone tries to catch some sunshine. It wasn't too packed, but we've been there in April. I can imagine it gets very crowded in the summer holidays.

“Too much crowd...”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

For being a city beach and an artificial one it is all right. Beware of the ever present pickpockets.

“Spend a Day at the BEACH!!”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

On our last day visiting Barcelona....we decided to take a lazy morning off and visit the beach. Well ....7 hours later we called it a day! What a great experience! There were many peddlers on the beach ...but not "annoying". Selling everything from sun glasses, towels, massages, tattoos, food, drinks, you name it! We rented an umbrella and some chairs (a must) and watched the constant activity. You will not be disappointed.
P.S. We also purchased a foot massage (SO WORTH IT!!!) and some refreshing coconuts!
