“Good Hotel with Unpolite Front Office Staff”
Reviewed October 13, 2012 via mobile

Hotel is close to main city. Close to Ramblas. Close to biggest shopping mall Korte Ingles. Burger King right across the street. One of the best BK I have ever been to.

Rooms are very clean though not by modern for the price paid. Barcelona hotels are expensive.

Bathroom (shower) etc was very good and functional.

Breakfast was a very good spread but only one person to manage the breakfast area. Therefore, always crisis and service issues. Staff was unpolite and always gave me a feeling that they are doing us a big favour by serving tea or coffee, which as a bit of put-off.

The only major negative was an extremely unpolite front office staff and always unwilling to help! The first answer to any question was always a big NO. The staff is indifferent and needs coaching.

The location is outstanding, which is a key reason why we selected this property. That, and its affiliation with Norwegian Cruise Line, through which we booked this hotel as part of a pre-cruise package.

Positives: The hotel is in a great location by the city center. The breakfast served in its restaurant was acceptable - nothing special to differentiate it from other properties. I had better food in the other Barcelona hotel I stayed in. By American standards the room is small but the beds are firm and comfortable.

Negatives: As is common, when you remove the room key from the wall, all power in the room is shut off, which means the room will be hot when you return because the air conditioning doesn't continue to run. Which means it takes hours for the room to cool down to a comfortable level for sleeping. Cleanliness of the room was a concern, with cockroaches found in the bathroom and entry hall in the morning, which freaked my wife out.

Summary: If location is key for you, you don't need a spotless room, and the outdoor temperature is such that air conditioning is not a concern, the HCC Montblanc is a good choice for you. If bugs freak you out, or you're a middle-aged woman whose menopausal hot flashes are only accentuated by hot, humid air in your room, you may want to look for different accommodations. The HCC Montblanc has a lot going for it - with some minor improvements it could be excellent. As long as you know what you're signing up for, the Montblanc is a good choice for a short-term stay.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the pool area, and it was very quiet.

Don't be put off by the ugly picture. This hotel is in a perfect location on the edge of the gothic quarter and city centre.
You can walk to loads of places from here, and there's plenty of metro and bus stops nearby (which are easy to use, even as a Barcelona newbie like us).
The staff are helpful and easygoing, and the room was big and cleaned daily. The beds were comfortable and the shower very powerful and hot.
The breakfast buffet was pretty good, although stuff sometimes starts to run out if you leave it until the last minute going down there, and if it gets really busy, things starts to fall apart.
But very good overall. We'd stay there again.

TIP: If you're a tea/coffee junkie, bring your own kettle and teabags and stuff cos that's one thing the room hasn't got.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool at the back are amazingly quiet for such a location, even with the window...

We stayed for four nights. The hotel was just fine, room somewhat basic but comfortable. Well equipped bathroom. There was some street noise, however, this is Barcelona and we were there during Festival. The location is outstanding! We walked almost everywhere, so much to see and do. Four nights was not enough.

My wife and I arrived at the airport and took the bus to Catalunya, the hotel was a short walk from the stop but very easy to find. The check in was swift despite being busy, everyone on the reception desk was very helpful and happy to talk in English when my Spanish ran out! Everything was very clean, the room we had was an excellent size. The room was on the second floor and not much natural light came in but that goes with the territory for a city centre hotel, the bathroom was dated but functional although the shower attachment would only work on low power as if you ramped it up the holder was too loose and you ended up spraying the ceiling but not really a problem. The hotel offered us a welcome/complimentary glass of cava which was a nice touch. The breakfast buffet was good with plenty of everything including fruit, bread, sweeter pastry things, salami, ham, cheese etc. The hotel was excellent value and the staff complimented this very well. On top of all of this the location as everyone mentions was superb and overall I would say the hotel exceeded all of our expectations.

Mountblanc is in a perfect location. Walking distance to just about everything in Barcelona. The staff here is very welcoming and efficient. We breezed through check-in and in no time were dropping our bags off in our room. Our room was a decent size, the beds were fine and the bathroom was nice. With a little updating this hotel could be a five star. The bed coverings should be updated and a newer flat screen TV (if one weren't too tired to watch at the end of the day) would be nice. There is a large lounge area next to the check-in and you also could relax a bit by the small pool outside. Overall, I would say this is a very good hotel choice for the location, high level of hospitality and of course, the price.

Located just on the border of the old town, most things are in walking distance. Even the beach, about 20 minutes. I had a room with a balcony on the seventh floor, highlt ecommended! Breakfast was pretty much horrible. But theres great food in walking distance so no problem
