The hotel is centrally located, in easy reach of the airport shuttle, about 5 minutes walk.
As a group the airport shuttle might be expensive at 5,35Euros/p., ask for a taxi to give you a rate! Closest metro station at 3 minutes .
The rooms are spacious enough for a city trip, clean, you may have more towels if you ask for.
The beds are quite hard and the pillows are very soft and just a roll.
We did not make use of the plunge pool as we were too busy visiting this very nice city.
Breakfast Buffet with great variety but the quality of the food was poor.
Bread and pastry old and hard, no fresh scrambled eggs, and worst of all - no staff to attend the breakfast.
Coffee ran out and no one to refill.
Just sometimes a waiter cleaning up the tables, and clingclong'in around, throwing the cutlery into a metal bucket so that my ears were ringing! Good way to get geared up in the morning.
The staff at the reception desk was very helpful , speakingEnglish, and no problem to leave the luggage in a secured area if you want to enjoy all your time in the city!
The safe in the room was with key - which we did not get. So you have to leave your belongings at the reception desk and put it in the hotel safe.
Wifi accessible from room with strong signal even on level 6. Ask for password at reception desk.

The rooms are ok. A bit old fashion, should be renovated.
To charge €18 for the breakfast buffet is way to much

The Hotel is very good Located.
The value / service is good.
The swimming pool is a bit small & the view is not that nice.
But I still recommend it if you just want a clean and nice place to sleep while enjoying your trip to Barcelona.

We were daughter and mother travelling on this trip; as a treat for daughter completing university on one hand, and a well needed break from work by me, on the other. On arrival we were immediately allocated a room, even though we were early for check in - which we didn't expect to happen. This was much appreciated as we were able to settle quickly and get straight out to explore the city!

During our visit, we found that some reception staff were naturally warm and friendy and others would respond more warmly in response to us being courteous and polite. However, on one occasion, we were rudely ignored when we approached the reception desk and were left standing for a good couple of minutes or so without acknowledgement, despite us being the only people at the counter at the time. Yes, we could have asserted ourselves, but the waiting amused us and I will use this as an example of poor service within training within our work team back here at home.

As others have mentioned, the location is pretty great; very close to the main square and metros stations close by. The hotel is very close to lots of the main attractions; including the very touristy Ramblas area. Conversely, we found a fantastic outdoor bistro area hidden at the rear of the cathedral; a real haven of peace amongst the hustle and bustle. (cafe d'estiu - museu frederic mares) - well worth a visit - great range of reasonably priced drinks and snacks and a low key environment. There is so much to see and do it's fab - you just need to be prepared to walk and wander, and explore. Oh, and the nearby beaches and the harbour; such a welcome bonus to a city break; giving the chance to flop and relax in the sun,

The pool at the hotel is small but very clean and pleasant, and the patio fairly well maintained with a pool drink and food service .... sometimes. As a suggestion, cushions or seat pads on the loungers and chairs would give the area a superior feel and uplift for the hotel; but we did spend a few hours reading in this area and it was peaceful and quiet and a bit of a suntrap.

The hotel room was clean but the very extreme corners could have done with a good hoover. Housekeeping did a good job of cleaning and made a lovely effort to turn down the beds and extra touches which were very sweet and much appreciated. I think, if the management nurturerd these skills in their staff, and concentrated on providing this excellence as standard, and the customer service of the reception and restaurant staff, the rating on this hotel could be sky high. However, perhaps profits are high enough so no change will be set in place; in which case, the hotel remain affordable and a good choice for those expecting a city centre hotel at a reasonable service vs cost ratio.

In terms of road noise, we did have a road facing room, but to be honest, after walking all day and then eating out until late evening we soon didn't notice the road noise once settled to sleep. We live in a small country side town now but originated from a city, and wonder how anyone can expect or enjoy silence without such a vibrant city.

As to bed lining and furnishings, yes the colour scheme is muted and sedate whereas it could be more vibrant; but it all matches and the carpets and furnishings are not old, they are just older style than most modern families would choose for their homes in today's world. The bedlinen was silky smooth, the bed cover smelt freshly laundered, as did the pillowcase. Yes there is one, long, sausage shaped pillow; we each folded it in half to form a double sized pillow; but I am sure that if you wanted 2 pillows, the hotel staff would provide them. Some of the bath towels were whiter than others, but they were all freshly laundered

In the locality, there are plenty of eateries near to the hotel; it's very easy to get around, the hotel is just fine as an all-rounder in the centre of the city. Gino's is a few doors away and we had a lovely couple of meals there.

There is so very much to see and do if you are open and enquiring and inquisitive. If you want a hotel from where you want to centre your holiday and spend all your time at, this is not for you. If you want a good base from which to explore the delights of Barcelona and the return to a good style of comfort; I am sure this hotel will serve you well.

Last but not least, breakfast was the funniest and bizarre time ever; and we wouldn't go for this option in future if we stayed here again. But, for the weirdness and non intentional fun side of it, it was a bit of a trade off; it was sadly funny watching one sole man clearing the tables only to find that for every table cleared, two were left in need of clearing with a waiting crowd milling around. That said, the environment was so variable, sometimes/somedays, lots of tables were set up and ready, sometimes not, sometimes the oranges were whole, sometimes they were segmented into eight's. sometimes you were asked your room number, sometimes not. Point of note is cold foods, bread, meats, cereal etc are on offer openly but hot breakfast items are available on request; however the information regarding this provision is only provided on cards placed on 50% or so of the tables. Over all, across the hotel, we felt that the breakfast setting, staffing and general ambience needed considerable input as we felt the environment and experience was really off.

But all in all, a lovely hotel, fab location, some of the staff are wonderful, some not, It just needs a manager (perhaps one that bothers to present front side to customers?) to have the vision to realise what the hotel could be; motivate all staff to be friendly, think about the colours for furnishings as the colour scheme was set in the 1980's (although furnishings were new and fresh). Once that happens, I would imagine the hotel could charge top dollar as it has it all.

Hope this helps with your choice.

Spent 3 nights here for a a city break with my son at the end of his exams. The best thing is its location which is central and close to Placa Catalunya from which everything seems to emanate: buses, Metro, Las Ramblas etc and close to many of the city's attractions. The Hotel is clean and functional...and friendly. Rooms are a bit tired, but everything worked in ours (including the free wifi!) and - once I had got some more pillows, we both slept very well with quiet and good air conditioning. A full bath (even if it had to be filled by using the shower head...that once resulted in one flooded bathroom); TV with a good variety of channels. No kettle or anything in room which was a pity from an English perspective. The Breakfast was more than adequate: nothing cooked; but a good choice of cereals, breads, cheeses, meats etc. The so-called pool is little more than a place to dip into to cool off; but - given where it is in the centre of town - it is a good extra with some sun loungers to sit out on. I would return principally for its location...but would probably try and pay for a better room. Barcelona itself is great: full of things to do...and a cosmopolitan feel. Tip: If you have never been to Barcelona before, spend a day on the top of a Tourist Bus hop on / hop off which will take you around the city and its environes helping you to get a feel for it, and help you decide what to concentrate on another day. A but pricey, but well worth it in my opinion.

For a 1 night stay this place is alright. We were only in for 1 night because we were leaving on a cruise the next day. The hotel, while convenient, definitely needs some updates. The room was clean and the beds were comfy. I even slept on a fold-away which was comfy...then again maybe I was so exhausted from travelling it didn't matter!

The staff definitely only move at one rate of speed: slow. As with a previous post, our check in took at least 15 minutes and we were the only ones in the lobby.

The hotel is in a perfect location for walking to local attractions and numerous restaurants. We ate at Ohla (which is about 4 blocks south) and they had great tapas and wine.

For a 1 night stay before a cruise (or after), this is a good place to stay. I wouldn't probably want to stay longer than a night or 2.

Ventilator shaft view. Paid for what was supposedly a four star hotel but looked more like a one star hotel. Room was shabby and walls were dirty. Room was very small and crowded with barely enough room to walk around the bed to get to the bath. The shower was poorly designed. We were close to the noisy elevators. Breakfast was supposed to be included in the price but the front desk told us that it was not. A continental breakfast was served in the hotel's restaurant but it was not until the second morning that we discovered that we could order a hot breakfast for the same price. In retrospect, we wished that we had demanded an adequate room or stayed elsewhere.

Your $200/night would be better spent anywhere else but at the HCC Montblanc.

Room Tip: Stay anywhere else but here.
