“Perfect Location”
Reviewed March 26, 2011

This Hotel was charming with a staff that one would expect in any major city. The location is fantastic! We had been forewarned about the noies we had been warned about the noise from the street at the front of the hotel however, we had no problems with securing a room at the rear. The rooms were clean and the staff was very helpful. If there is an issue, the “breakfast buffet” was ridiculous. I know that we tend to become used to food service based upon our country of origin and of course, for the price (About $25.00 US Dollars per person) one would expect a Cornucopia of selection. The buffet is equal to a “continental breakfast” that one would expect in a 4th rate motel with the exception of the Coffee!
Aside from that, we would definately stay again.

We had stayed here before, just for a couple of days, a few years back and we thought it would be OK. We usually go for 4 stars, but our previous experience suggested that this would be fine, and we were not disappointed.

The weather was hell. We had rain, thunder, lightning hail and just one reasonably pleasant day out of 5, but Barcelona is a wonderful place. There is so much to do and so much to see. This hotel is well positioned for getting around, and it is warm (maybe too warm at times) comfortable and welcoming if you want to stay in.

The reception staff were really helpful and pleasant, the bar service was fine (sometimes you had to wait a couple of minutes) and we enjoyed the piano player on the night we caught him.

Our room was spacious and comfortable. We overlooked the main street Via Laiatana, which was great fun for watching the storms, and although there was some noise at night, it was not a real problem.

Excellent for a 3 star hotel. recommended

We stayed at the HCC Montblanc for two nights prior, and four nights following our Mediterranean Cruise. We chose this hotel because the cruise line (NCL) has a partnership with the hotel and we were able to secure transfers to/from the ship along with our stay. Other selling points were the free Internet access, breakfast, and proximity to Barcelona attractions. Other reviews on TripAdvisor mentioned that it was quiet and the hotel’s website also noted the soundproof rooms.
We had requested a room at the back of the hotel, as we believed it would be even quieter, and the hotel complied with our request. The Montblanc is located on busy Via Liatana; very close to the Gothic section. We walked everywhere and we were not disappointed during our first stay. Our room on the 7th floor was spacious and very quiet. We especially appreciated the hand-held shower with very good water temperature and pressure, and the room where we were able to store our luggage before check-in. Our flight arrived at around 9am that morning and they kindly allowed us to check in early, which permitted us some time to explore a bit and recuperate from the long flight. The hair dryer worked well and toiletries included shampoo, shower gel, shower cap, and comb. The breakfast buffet offered a lot of choice and, time-wise, there was a wide window of opportunity to get there. We found the front desk staff very helpful and language was not an issue. We were a bit disappointed the pool was closed, as it was quite warm on the day we arrived, but we hadn’t really expected that it would be open given the time of year.
Our second stay was not as satisfactory as our first. We were given a room on the fourth floor at the rear of the hotel, but the window hinge was broken and, as a result, the room was not sound-proof. We mentioned this to the front desk and were assured it would be dealt with. There was an attempt to remedy the problem, but when we explained that the room was still very noisy, nothing further was done. On the plus side, I noticed the check-in card offered a free glass of cava between 9 and 10pm, so this did help us get to sleep.
Overall I would recommend the HCC Montblanc as a good Barcelona home base or as a weigh-point for cruisers.

An ok-ish 3-star hotel.
The location of the hotel is good. Just off the main shopping streets of Barcelona.
The hotel itself is somewhat outdated. The rooms are clean but outdated.
Themperature is too hot and can't be controlled/ If you open the window you have all the noise of the street. Not ideal.
The buffet breakfast is good.

we stayed 3 nights at the montblanc in barcelona, lovely hotel, clean and welcoming, staff friendly, we had a room on the 6th floor, at the front of the hotel, it was a good size room and bathroom, there was some road noise but once asleep couldnt hear it, the walls were thin and we could hear our neighbours when they came back to the room after midnight and had a shower!!, breakfast was plentiful, and you could order eggs and bacon and sausage if you wanted although these did tend to be on the greasy side, we ate at the italian restaurant just a few doors from the hotel called Ginos, and had a lovely 2 course meal with wine for less than 50euros, we wouldnt recommend 'american soda tapas bar and grill' based on la rambla, the meal in there was awful and cost 70 euros with beer, we tried the house tasting menu, not worth it at all.
all in all the weekend trip was wonderful, and we aim to go back again when it is slightly warmer, i would definately stay at the montblanc again, very central for all the walking we did, and we walked everywhere............

My husand and I stayed at the Montblanc precruise in November 2010. This was our first stay in Barcelona. We arrived after an overnight flight around 1pm. Our checkin was quick and easy and we were given our pre-cruise package from our cruise company. I cannot say enough about the location - it was a quick walk to the Picasso Museum (with the Chocolate Museum close by - don't miss the Spanish version of hot chocolate - it is to die for!). There are wonderful restaurants nearby (Gino's right down the block - make a left out of the hotel - a wonderful risotto), Placa de Catalunya (city center where you can also board the Hop on Hop off bus) and Las Ramblas are both a short walk away. The staff at the hotel could not have been more helpful - every question was answered in a quick and efficient manner - maps were printed off from Google to help us locate restaurants, etc. Our room, which faced the back of the hotel, was immaculate and up to date - we had more than enough room to store our luggage (I'm unclear why some have complained about this one issue). The bathroom was quite nice - done in a beige granite. The included morning buffet was fine - typical European fare - cold cuts, cheeses, boiled eggs, breads, coffee, juice, tea and, of course, yogurt. I would definately recommend this hotel to anyone considering a visit to Barcelona, and, should we return, we will absolutey stay there again.

I booked through BA Airmiles based on the location of the hotel and ease of walking from the airport bus stop to the hotel.

I was pleasantly surprised with what we got for our money. Staff were pleasant. Although dated, the room was clean and what you would expect from a 3 Star hotel. The bathroom was nice with free toiletries and we even had a balcony with seating and free internet access. Down side was that there was a charge to safe and also the lack of tea making facilities, although commonly lacking in some European destinations it still can’t get used to the idea of hotels not providing these facilities in room. On one occasion I wanted an afternoon cup of tea so dialled room service only to be told that room service was not available at certain hours so I had to go down to the bar and collect my tea myself and take it up to my room – I thought that this was quite poor, even for a 3 star hotel.

The breakfast had a good continental offering but what ever you do don’t order the cooked breakfast – it is truly horrible and un-edible which means that the continental does get boring after a while.

The location of this hotel is excellent and I would recommend it for a budget city break, I would stay again.
