This is a lovely hotel. The location in fantastic, 10 minutes walk from Las Ramblas and a few minutes walk from a bus turistic stop. Best of all it is located in an area full of wonderful shops and restaurants, you will be spoilt for choice. The hotel itself is modern, with a vey friendly staff. The food and service is good. The only negatives were that the room we were in was on the small side and did suffer from quite a lot of noise from the streets outside and the underground (we were on the second floor). Apart from that I couldn't fault the hotel and we will return.

We recently spent a weekend in Barcelona and were lucky enough to have booked to stay at this little gem of a hotel. Idealy located just a short walk from La Rambla and very close to well most thing's that are of interest to people on a weekend break. But this review is about the hotel not the surrounding area. On arrival we were informed by the receptionist that the room was not quite ready and that it would only be a few minutes and would we like a drink of cava whilst we were waiting, this we graciously accepted and sat in the very nice lounge/reception. We proceeded to book in and then after a short time went to our room(709 on the seventh floor) we had booked in on a bed and breakfast basis, anyway we proceeded to our room and what a lovely room, everything was in tip top order, Bath/shower, soaps and shower gel, in fact their were plenty of accessories as well as bath robes and slippers for the both of us, and as usual you could purchase such items if you so wished to after your stay. On the roof terrace their was a warm/hot plunge and a sauna was available, terrace bar with lovely views over this part of Barcelona, and if you like church bells then this is the place for you, although with the windows closed you would hardly be aware of them, the room was very clean and comfortable very modern decor all round throughout the hotel. Breakfast on sunday morning was more than enough a self service buffet was available with plenty of choice and the hotel staff were extremely polite and helpful, the restaurant was to be found on floor -1. I would certainl have no qualms in reccomending this hotel to anyone staying in this part of Barcelona, convenient, clean, affordable, and a very helpful staff throughout the hotel and checking out time was very good, so next time you are in Barcelona for a weekend consider this small boutique 4 star hotel and you will not be dissapointed, tell them Alphonsus Matthews sent you, it will not make any difference to your bill but it might score me some points when we are next in Barcelona. Have a great stay.

Room Tip: Room 709 is at the rear and we found it to be quiet, however it did have two single bed's, howev...

We have just returned from a three night stay at this hotel and it was everything we hoped for and more. Check in was speedy and efficient; helped along by a glass of cava! I had mailed the hotel prior to arrival requesting a room with a view if possible; we had a room on the 8th floor with a great view. The room was clean, welcoming and nicely decorated; plenty of 'supplies' in the bathroom too. Coffee machine and coffee in the room. Breakfast was good with a varied selection; something for all. I had also told the hotel that it was my husband's birthday while we were staying and they left a card and bottle of cava in the room on the day; great! The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The location is brilliant for sightseeing in Barcelona. The rooftop terrace was not staffed while we were there (out of season) but this was explained when we checked in and we were also told it was absolutely fine to take your drinks up there and enjoy the view. We had a fab time in Barcelona and hope to return; we would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Start at the beginning, check in was a delight, the receptionists were very pleasant and efficient, glass of cava on arrival. Room was on second floor, it was small but more than suited our needs, comfy bed small bathroom and the shower was adequate, not much water pressure but very hot, mini bar if you wanted to use it prices were just what you would pay anywhere, there was 2 free bottles of water on arrival, There was a coffee machine thingy but we didnt make use of it. You could hear the metro which ran underneath, but honestly it was just a low rumble that didnt bother us, higher up you probably wouldnt hear it, we overlooked a side street quite near the front of the hotel and could see the small square which was at the front of the hotel.
Breakfast, best breakfast ever, there was a good selection of hot food bacon scrambled eggs, sausages, beans, mushrooms, fried egg on toast, the cold meats and cheeses were also excellent, and there was a good selection of fresh fruit which changed daily, Yougurts, decent toast machine (Which amazed me that no one seemed to know how to use it! its just a commercialised version of a toaster you would have at home, grown men and women both just put in bread and wondered why it wouldnt toast when all you had to do was turn the knob to start it). There was also a toastie machine with ready made panini style sandwiches to pop in (2 varieties) The coffee machine was good also I only ever had black coffe whichwas nice and not too bitter, hubby drinks tea in the morning and it was twinings (best cup of tea he's ever had abroad he says). the best thing was that you waited to be seated so there was no wandering round looking for a table. We left on a Saturday which was considerable busier than through the week and couples were queueing to get in as room is small, but its not something that would bother us, as we hate the wandering round looking for a table then discovering there is no where to sit, and someone strolls in and just gets first table free when you have been waiting.
Location was brilliant, close to the cathedral, and in just seconds you were wandering round all the little streets of the Gothic area, If you walked up to the right as you came out of the hotel and then turned down at the next roundabout you were at a market which all the locals could buy all the fresh produce they needed, there were also excellent eateries here full of locals, food was amazing. When you walked through the gothic area you arrived at the Ramblas, Catalunya Plaza at the top, the streeets up from there had the most amazing shops and it was fun to watch how the other half lived, all in all everywhere was within walking distance.
Would I recommend this hotel to anyone, YES, would I return, YES. I did notice that one of the other reviews said that the receptionist were water nazis but not everything is free!! the water, juice and cava at the front desk were there to welcome arriving guests, not there so that you could avoid paying for a drink, if they were that grippy they could have bought water at the supermarked and kept it in the fridge in their room. The two girls there were lovely, but I always say, treat people how you would like to be treated and you will have no problems, and anyone that moans about staff in any establishement have usually been rude straight off the bat. Also if the same reviewer had been nicer they probabl been pointed to the tea coffee facilities at the end of the bar where you could get a drink (free!! ha ha)

Simple but clean and tastefully decorated. The greatest highlight at the Montcada is it's rooftop with amazing views to the Gothic barrio and it's location. The hotel is right at the entrance of the Gothic Barrio so we were able to walk everywhere including historic landmarks such as the Barcelona Cathedral as well as lots of shops and restaurants. The hotel offers a special rate at a nearby parking lot. The rooms are simple but very comfortable and extremely clean. Highly recommended.

Clean room with beautiful views. Great location. Bar on top deck has horible service, but amazing views. Hotel has pitchers of water at desk. 4 night stay, $500 per night, and we could only have one 4 ounce cup total per stay. Desk girls are water natzis. You had a cup yesterday, you can't have another! Would stay again. Beautiful bathroom, all marble. Close to Picasso museum, la Rumblas, famous church, and starbucks.

We stayed here 2 nights after a cruise and everything was perfect. The hotel is close to hop on hop off bus and everything else! The staff was amazingly helpful. The breakfast was great. Our room faced the alley but after long days of touring it didn't matter, it was very clean and quiet. I would stay again and recommend to family and friends. The rooftop view is amazing. Extremely safe area.
