Owner description: Off-beat and fashionable neighborhood that features historic attractions, art galleries, funky shops, bars and tapas.
Reviewed March 2, 2013

Even on a cold and rainy day this was a fun neighborhood to walk around. Best to get dropped off at the Plaza Santa Maria del Mar. Several restaurants and shops around the plaza leading to the Cathedral. Close to the Cathedral is a very good wine bar called Vinya del Seynor. After a walk around the Cathedral take Calle Argenteria off to the left for many more shops, galleries, and restaurants. The shops and galleries have many interesting and original art works and local crafts. Easy to spend a few hours just strolling these several blocks and investigating all of the boutiques. After this it is a short walk to the right up Via Laietana to the Mercat Santa Caterina which is a wonderful, colorful open air food market. The display of fruits and vegetables is amazing along with meats and various prepared items. Pleasant way to spend even a bad weather day.

Love the old streets and its vibrant atmosphere. Look for exciting new designers in little shops, authentic tapasbars, a wine bar, museum of Picasso ect. Less known but not less loved area!

El Born is a good location for walking around Barcelona . With the work being done into it's past it is going to be a fascinating place to visit in the future.

History oozes throughout this area with narrow alleys and cobbled streets. masses of ancient churches and buildings to explore and hundreds of bars and eateries. Barcelona is a wonderful city with something to appeal to just about anyone and El Born is the epitome of what Barcelona has to offer.

People in Barcellona divide themselves between those who prefer the Gothic and those who prefer the Born. Both ancient quarters, which stand side by side, separated (or united) by the Laietana Avenue, are wonderful, and can be visited together, in the same (very long) walk. I, personally, prefer the Gothic quarter, but the Born is extremely interesting, anyway.
