We were vacationing in Spain and while in Barcelona my GF wanted to check this store out. The store was really busy. We went in and took a number and basically tried to stay out of the way until our number was called. We tried to look at different styles of shoes there while waiting but that was near impossible because of how busy it was inside. The employee that helped us was very attentive though and did not hurry us when it was our turn. They let us try on several pairs of different styles til we found some shoes that we liked. Walked out of there with a couple pairs of shoes. It is definitely a tourist spot though the shoes are of good quality.
I love espadrilles and planned to buy some authentic Spanish espadrilles during our trip to Spain. Advanced research about where we planned to visit suggested La Manual Alpargatera for espadrilles. The shop is easy to find, just about 4 blocks off La Rambla. When we arrived, the store wasn’t that busy but the ambiance, the staff and the quality of the shoes wasn’t enticing. It is a small place and there is a variety of styles, many in a cabinet behind glass doors. If there wasn’t another espadrille store in the next block I probably would have pursued trying on some shoes at La Manual Alpargatera. Instead I went practically next door to Espadrilles Barcelona Lluis Manuel. Beautiful shoes, many styles, colors and fabrics, efficient service, great quality and prices. The hardest part was trying to choose. I purchased 3 pairs of espadrilles at that store.
We walked and stumbled on this place.
My girlfriend could not be happier.
Tried on 4 or 5 pairs with helpful employees and bought 1 pair
I went there twice in Apr and Sep to buy the shoes from Japan.
First time, I found very unkind lady staff looked like Japanese.
I try to talk in Japanese and she answer not kindly.
I feel unconfortable for that but the other lady staff with red glasses can support me so I could by finally with smile.
Second time in Sep, she was still there, (it is surprised) and I ask in Japanese but she never answer in Japanese.
I could not understand her behavior at all, it's really shame as Japanese bcz many comment in trip adviser pointing out about her attitude and it makes the image of Japanese(also shops) worth....
Anyway I like product and shops and I just wanted to enjoy! Without her, it could be more enjoyful!!
if you go to barcelona and in addition to the comfort you appreciate the art, you have to walk its streets with a pair of alpargatas "La Manual Alpargatera", the store retains that essence of barcelona and the orginality that can only be found from the hands of the best craftsmen.
We went at a busy time - 4.30pm, they had just reopened after siesta. It was so crowded in the shop, I was with my 11 yr old. I wanted to come back later but the floor to ceiling vision of espadrilles kept me jostling with the crowd. I didn't know I had to grab a number until I wondered why no one paid any attention to my questions. A sales person was kind enough to ask me to grab a number. When our number was called, he gave us his undivided attention. In fact I felt bad I wanted to try on so many pairs, he was so patient though. I walked away with two pairs but wish I had gone when it was quieter and I could've browsed for more. I have a pair of espadrilles from 10 yrs ago that are in excellent condition, they are absolutely timeless. I would love to know if they ship to the US...
I had no idea the Pope or Penelope Cruz had bought from the shop. I've only just found that out.
