“A very good and interesting museum”

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this museum and spent longer here than we intended. Most of the exhibits have English translations for the information which certainly increased our enjoyment and understanding. Laid out in chronological order it was very informative.

“Interesting, informative, extensive and cheap!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2013

If you want to know a bit more about Catalonia than just the big set piece tourist attractions of Barcelona then this will provide you with an informative couple of hours. Lots of interesting displays going from pre-history right up to modern times. I was particularly interested in the civil war and Franco era. All the information is in Catalan (obviously!), Spanish and English.

Really pleased that I visited as it gave me a bit of insight into the city and the region.

The Museum is right by the modern marina so easy to find and at just $4 it is surely one of the best value attractions in the city.

“Great exhibits and location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

This exceeded my expectations....given that I didn't know what to expect. But it was a beautifully designed modern building.....with levels showing the evolution of Catalonia...from prehistoric days through to the present. Entrance fees are reasonable and free to seniors. The displays of dwellings, their inhabitants, the surrounding countryside and the context in which they lived were amazing and very well designed. It had some interactive components....where you enter into a streetcar and watch films of the streets ahead, or watch film footage from the Spanish Civil War, after entering a "tunnel" where soldiers could shelter from the bombs.

I learned about the politics and the heroes of Catalonia, all in a very enjoyable way.
I'd recommend this as a must see visit if you have time in Barcelona. Very nice museum gift store on the ground floor.

“Cheap to visit, so much to see and read & excellent views from roof”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

For anyone who already takes an interest in Catalonia's history, from medieval times to its industrial boom, and more recent times, or whether you have even the slightest curiosity, this museum is absolutely worth visiting. The museum is broken up into different sections of history, making it very easy to navigate around.

For some, the collections may be overwhelming, but whether you have time or not, there is no denying that there is plenty to see and something interesting for everybody.

The large number of physical exhibits is a great credit to the museum, bringing alive the region's history, and adding something extra from just reading the text that accompanies each section.

The exhibits have English translations, in addition to Spanish and Catalan.

It is very inexpensive to visit, and easy to get to on the metro (Barceloneta station).

The museum also has a great shop, with a selection of books and other items.

After finishing on the top floor, it's worth walking through the restaurant outside onto the terrace, which offers stunning views of the docklands in Barcelona. It's absolutely stunning, and a good opportunity for some photos.
